    Removing 2011 WRX antenna

Honestly I haven't even looked at my antenna yet to see if I could figure it out on my own, but thought I'd ask here because I haven't seen any instructions for this online anywhere.

How do you remove the whole antenna assembly from the roof of a 2011 WRX?

The reason I ask is because I am going to be applying black vinyl to the roof of my car. I think it would be so much easier to lay the vinyl onto a flat surface without the antenna in the way. Any input would be helpful. Thanks guys (and girls).

you have to remove the headliner before you can remove the antenna base. i wouldnt recommend removing the headliner unless you have some pretty solid experience with something like that. nothing's worse than an effed up headliner in a brand new car.

How much does it cost to do the black vinyl?Or are you going to do it yourself?

Thanks for the info...I certainly won't be removing the headliner

I ordered my vinyl from this website (they have gloss and flat black):
BMW Shadowline Black Window Trim & Roof Vinyls

The roof on a 2011 WRX is about 59" long so I ordered the 72" long sheet just to be safe (I like having more than 1" extra to work with).

The prices seem reasonable and the quality looks good too. Lots of photos in their gallery that you can look at as well. It seems like a (relatively) easy install to do yourself so I'm going to give it a shot. I'm sure a tint shop somewhere would do the install for you if you're willing to pay for it.

    EDIT: Here's a link for a similar install on a G35 http://auto.badtziscool.com/how-tos/...-roof-overlay/

Sure seems like a risky DIY to do on a 2011 wrx, i imagine some type of glue is used... sheesh!!

No glue actually. It's a self adhesive vinyl just like they use on the full car wraps you see. It actually uses static a lot more than adhesive and is 100% removable. The only risk is that I screw it up and have to throw away $60 worth of vinyl and start over

So as long as I can do a good job on one of my first 5 tries I'll beat or break even on that quote
