Unhappy Another Bug-Eye Bites the Dust!

On the way to work this afternoon, some clueless biatch in an Accord ran a red light and smashed into my WRX wagon on Lincoln at 19th St. She barely missed the car 1/2 length behind me in the middle lane to hit my left front 1/4 panel. I didn't even have a chance to brake before she hit me in the right lane. The impact spun my car around to 19th St. and the rear left must have also hit her car as the rear left 1/4 panel and bumper were dented and the rear left tail lights busted out. Her car, which was going up 19th also spun enough to end up down Lincoln about 50 feet. Luckily my head didn't break the driver's window and the side airbag also didn't deploy. However, the left front was smashed in enough that the battery got pushed in and the fuse box pushed into the winshield fluid tank, the plastic clip for the hood holder broke, and the radiator support is still intact but looks off-center. The hood looks fine except for a slight bend at the corner and makes some contact with the side 1/4 panel when I closed it. The left front fog light ended up facing almost to the side. The plastic piece between the light and grill is all crooked. The left front wheel has an impact scuff and is turned right and wouldn't straighten when I turned the steering wheel, so something there is broken. (In the picture, it is straight, but the right wheel is turned all the way left - I guess they turned it to back the car to the curb, but obviously the 2 front wheels are out of whack.) The driver's door wouldn't open enough for me to get out because the front left 1/4 panel got shoved back and out into it. The plastic side skirt was all bent at the front, but the body underneath didn't look damaged. The left rear got pushed in enough that the left compartment door was pushed out at an angle with the jack pushed out, the spare tire well pushed right up against the spare, and the trunk contacts the side panel when I close it. The left rear wheel also now seems to have noticibly visual negative camber.

Her car's whole front end was destroyed with the radiator all bent up and her bumper lying in the street. There was smoke and green antifreeze all over the ground and the firemen poured sand all over it. Her left right rear was somewhat dented and the wheel was broken off the axle as it flopped around when they loaded it on the flatbed. Must have been where my left rear hit.

Fortunately no one was injured. By the time I got out of my car, the 2 drivers in the lanes left of me were already standing on the sidewalk and said she ran the red light. The cop said her insurance had expired on the card but she claimed it was current. She had CO plates, but a FL license and Silt, CO address (must have been a ski bum, but not a very attractive one). And she was balling so loudly histerically after the accident, I thought someone was seriously injured in her car or something. Also, as the police were writing her a ticket, a stock looking blue WRX sedan with 4-5 people in it drove by on 19th St.

I didn't look closely enough in the engine compartment to see if any engine parts were damaged, but the intercooler looked ok and the front strut tower bar I added was ok. Anybody know if this will be totalled? And if so, does the insurance give you the Blue Book trade-in value, private party value, or dealer retail value? I certainly couldn't afford a trade-in value hit, but the dealer retail value isn't so bad. Also does the insurance cover things like replacing the clear bra? Luckily, the only other mods I have are the armrest extension, front strut bar (which was free and probably worthless anyway), and the rear 20 mm sway bar (which I can't find the receipt for).

A cop and the tow truck driver both said, "nice car" to me at different times. All I could say is "was". Sucks, this is the 1st accident ever where my car ended up undrivable.

That sucks, sorry to hear. As far as car value goes they give you the average value of your car ie trade in, private, etc. but it sounds like you car can be fixed. good luck and keep us updated

Damn Roger! Sorry to hear man. Glad you're okay. I would try to pull that sway bar and swap it with the stocker if you get a chance before they total the car. As for the clear bra I would say they SHOULD cover it, but I think results may very with these things.

Good luck with that. The great thing about when something breaks is that now you can upgrade

Funny, even in you accident thread you've still managed to post a spotted thread

I don't know if I'd be able to swap the sway bar unless they give me sometime alone with it at the lot. Anybody with the armrest extension know if it is easy to disattach and take out?

Only reason I haven't upgraded more is that I've been too poor. And that hasn't changed.

You should tell her insurance agency that your neck is starting to hurt and that you think an STi would really help supress any pains in the future.

As much as we give you a hard time for...everything, I'm really sorry to hear about this. Hope everything works out well with the insurance company.

I remember when my dads Suburban got stolen, he got alot more than he expected for it. That was through Farmer's or something I think.

OH NO!! My condolences (if she's totalled, that is). I hope the insurance stuff works out for you, and I hope you end up with an '05 wagon so you don't have to bother with those ridiculous round headlights anymore. Poor Suby.

Sorry to hear aboot this, Roger. I am glad that everyone is okay and I hope the insurance treats you alright.

I believe that you can go ahead and make the claim with your insurance and get things rolling. Then your insurance company will go after the other driver's insurance for the claim. It might be something to look into at least.
