No.... actually I sold the 914 not so long after I bought the WRX. I was dumping all my time and money into the WRX..... My daughter hated it cause it messed up her hair... My wife hated it because it didn't have A/C..... so it seemed I barely drove it.

In fact.. I posted here when I sold it:
The Porsche is SOLD.... new wheels/tires bought

Now.... I miss it.... horribly. I love those little cars, and always will. Poor little bastard child of VW and Porsche. Neither company wants to claim it. Ironically, it handled curves better than anything either one of them made at the time. That is why they are such popular AutoX cars.

They are however... maintenance nightmares..... and prone to rusting like nothing you've ever seen. You have to be EXTREMELY careful when buying one.

I'm still considering selling the Brat once it's finished.... and then coming up with a few Gs out of my pocket and buying another one.

And yes.... they do make SBC conversions for the 914.... and more recently, Subaru conversions for the 914 as well. Renegade Hybrids out of Las Vegas are the leaders in the whole Suby-powered 914 movement...... and I have BOOKS worth of notes needed to build one.

    Some day.

Thanks for the info. I think it would be a fun little car for a bit but would keep with an aircooled setup. It would be a good way to fill the gap until I can afford a 550 replica (which will also take a wrx/Sti motor nicely). Sounds like a miata would be less of a headache for the time being though.

Ah, cool just saw this thread. Neat idea! I'll have to find pics of these once I get home:

    1 ~1999) 1979 Ford F350 Custom - Dump Truck
    2 ~2001) 1991 Ford F150 V6
    3) 2003 Acura RSX Type-S
    4) 2009 Subaru WRX Premium Wagon

Yes, my first "car" was a dump truck. 4 speed, first gear was blown out... mice had completely eaten away the drivers seat foam so I had to put blankets on the springs.
Floor under the clutch had rusted out so you could see the left front wheel spinning under you... covered that with a piece of sheet metal.
Exhaust rusted through under the cab so I couldn't idle without filling up the cab with CO and NOx.
Plus the bed had rotted out (it was wood on a metal frame) so it was hardly even worth using as a dump truck... though some plywood helped that problem.

All in all that was a great truck to have around the farm though. I had it from about age 12 to .... well now since it is still sitting in the same spot where it died. Had a ton of torque! I learned that when you get stuck in sand, you can't just floor it and wait for it to get unstuck... had to get pulled out with the tractor now and then.

914's are one of those odd cars that, for some reason, looked cheap and undesirable to me as a kid, and now look uber-secksy. I'd love to have one.

My mr2 finally got sold after sitting with a destroyed engine for 3 years. Went to a very good home to. The car was at my parents house in LA, guy drove from Salt lake city with a trailer and picked it up for $1100. Guy said hes going to restore it and will drive it down to LA for me to see it when its done. Apparently the guy already has some very nice old cars that he restored and needed a new project.
