The only thing I can think of to smoothe them out would be to use some sandpaper (moving from rough to fine grit) or a Dremmel tool. As for the coating... I'm not reall sure.

    Good luck!

    You can try this place.

    http://www.wheelcollision.com

They repair wheels with bends, chips, cracks. Car & Driver sent a BMW rim to em that was cracked and dented and they showed the repaired wheel. it looked like new. Give em a call.

Thanks tarbaj, I looked at that place and their prices are not cheap. I might as well buy another rim :-)

I am going to try Fixxxer's idea of sandpaper. That should at least be able to smooth the rough edges out.

    Thanks guys for your help!

Corrision is not something you have to worry about. Oxidation of alu is not damaging.

Mine had some serious rash from scraping.

I used 600 grit, primered, then 800/1000 until smooth, paint and clear. good to go.

STi vs. Grand Am, Curb and Yard

Class let out early tonight, so obviously I'm glad about that and start driving home. My house is on a corner on a pretty big lot, so there's a lot of yard and curb to go by before getting to the driveway. As I'm coming up towards the driveway, this Grand Am with huge chrome wheels comes down MY side of the road around the curve right before the driveway. I flash my lights to get him to go back on his side of the road but he doesn't move, so I end up swerving, popping over the curb and into MY OWN YARD. When the guy stopped at the stop sign on the corner, I could see him laughing.

That didn't last long. Having been run off the road so many times and had people refuse to give way when they're on my side of the road, I got a little pissed off. And so I cut the wheel and slammed the gas. Grass and mud ripped up behind me and I popped down the curb pretty fast, got a nice chirp from the tires as I spun the rest of the way around in the road. Turn on the brights, go WOT and draw 1st gear to redline, stop RIGHT behind the Grand Am. Grand Am notices this and takes off as fast as he can, weaving all over the road after turning, then nearly left the road turning onto the next street up and then he floored it. I didn't give chase further than the stop sign.

Yeah...try laughing now, ass clown. It would seem it is time to install the mounted cameras to record while driving all the time. It's not safe without them anymore. I hope that ******* soiled his pants.

As a grand am owner I would like to take this opportunity to appologize for this ass clown. Sorry this had to happen to an STi owner. I hope that the car was not injured too badly.

The car was fine...the curb is low and well rounded off, thankfully. Funny thing is this is the first time a Grand Am has done this to me. Usually, it's a truck/SUV or land barge sedan. What's worse is if I get the mounted cameras, I have a feeling I'll have to end up taking out just the clips of people doing illegal things and fairly often compile it all to give to police...this happens a lot.

Definately sux to hear that this is a reoccuring event. I hope that you can find a solution to this problem. I live around alot of back roads and I understand about people having no regards for others on the road.

Thanks. I suspect the camera will help cause problems for the people with the police, though it won't help me since they won't notice cameras or speak to me. Oh well. I guess if it gets known police are getting tough in general, they might think twice before doing such a thing.

you should have atleast taken his license plate # and reported wreckless driving to the cops.... anyways, glad you and the car are ok

+1 for launching a handful of change or something at him. Actually, it's probably better that you stopped it from escalating. I'm sure it would have been momentarily satisfying, but that's how really bad stuff gets started.

    Way to keep your cool.

Thanks. Be glad I'd left my big lever/2" diameter 2' long steel pipe at home. I have seen the car around before too, so getting his plate will be easy. Then, just wait and hope he doesn't do it again and I never have to do anything with his plate. At least I know how well the car holds up popping a curb at speed, even if rear suspension may be having problems. Gotta find something good in it all...

You should of gotten the plate number and called the Police. A visit to his/her house is in order. Granted all he has to do is deny it cause its your word vs his but he might think next time not to do that **** if he's gonna get a visit from the po po. I think its called pattern of history.

Next time I will...but won't have just a plate. Instead, officers will get to review video footage of the person running me off the road, then catching their tag on camera. Can't deny you did it in that case.
