What are the common problems with the 02-03 WRX?

Like what the title states....what are the common problems I'm going to be looking at if I purchase an 02-03 WRX? I'm not going to buy the newer models because I can't afford the insurance. After checking the insurance for the 02-03 version it's a lot cheaper for some reason. Anyways back on topic what's the common problems and please be specific cause I'll be looking to get a wrx within a week or two.

not really a problem but they say the tranny is stronger on 04-06 models than then 02-03. it only matters if you drive like a douche and stomp on the car all the time - especially when heavily modded.

subaru paint is eh for all the years.
during really really cold winters, when you first start the car it smells like gas but you can fix it with maintenance/warrenty.

err besides that 02-03 ftw imo.

    good luck.

Well I kinda have a heavy foot and I drive fast all the time....I mean don't get me wrong I treat all my cars that I've owned in the past really well. I try to get all the maintenance all up to date right away and I just drive fast. I never dump my clutch and be like those idiots I see on the streets and at the track. I will track this car but not every time just once in a while. The color I'm looking for right now is mostly white if not than I would guess blue would be my last resort

If you buy a bugeye you'll have the problem of always wishing you'd bought a blobeye.

Actually, they beefed up 2nd gear (phyiscally wider) in 03. It shouldn't be as much of a problem as it was in 02. Somewhere there's a huge chart with the ratios and dimensions of all the Subaru transmissions, I think it's in a technical sticky.

    Poor stock battery
Many bug eyes have a fuel smell issue (tsb can fix it though)
    Bad paint
Interior is more then likely rattling at this point
    Tranny has issues if abused
0-60 faster then your first sexual experience.

In addition to what's already been said.
    1. Some people will think it's a neon from the front and an Echo from the rear. :x
    2. You will spend too much money on mods and a EVO IX w/ little mods will smoke you. :x

My '02 WRX is still under warranty and the fix has been denied at two dealerships. DO NOT COUNT ON ANY WARRANTY. Subaru warranties are worthless. To repair the fuel smell it costs around $500. Not worth it. Either buy one already fixed, or buy a different car. The smell is continuous at temperatures below about 20F, and has been so bad as to cause my wife to have to stop and get some air before continuing on her commute.
