My REX has died... (images may cause nightmares)

Well friends, over the weekend my wife killed my/our wrx. Luckily she is fine just shaken up. wish I could say the same for the car. We pulled out the Head unit, Subs, Amp and Cobb turner before they hauled it away and now we await the verdict from our insurance. We only owed about $800 on it which is the real kick.

Anyway she was going 60, hydroplaned, over corrected, spun and smashed into a tree in the ditch. This is her story at least.

Now I get to stare at an empty spot in my drive way. Hoping to get enough from the insurance to get into an 07 or newer WRX wagon, while she wants an Audi wagon

Your right, the car did its job like a champ to. It could have been a lot worse. I know the road she was on and the ditches are more like cliffs down to a river. Its alright though, we probably would of been looking to get something newer soon anyway.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Just got to talk to the appraiser and I was able to get the value of my New $800 rebuildable drive line along with the cost of the timing belt and some other power steering line replacement stuff added to the value. so that will help out a bit. I think my insurance checks the local sales of similar cars with same options and mileage for pricing.

If they do this it should help us out a good bit. As people in the mid west like to ask 15k for 04 and 05 wrxs with 160k miles. not to include my hard to find non leather, heated seats and power sunroof. Heres hoping, I should hear from them NLT Tuesday

See my bugeye thread. I hit a tree in almost exactly the same spot, and got $11k for my 105k mile bugeye (which was $2k more than I'd paid for it 3 years earlier). The adjuster commented on the clean engine bay (which had been detailed a few months prior), clean interior, and had an overall appearance of being well cared for.

Since we're both in Oregon, that's probably a reasonable reference. I think my insurance company only found a couple of other sales in Seattle, but didn't have much data to work from otherwise.

That gives me a lot of hope actually. I'm in Salem so it should be very comparable. When talking to the adjuster I kinda felt as though he has a soft spot for the poor mangled wrx. I'm thinking that we should see something good back since we only paid 13k for it in 08, even though it has around 130k miles on it. Plus with USAA insurance they usually are on the good side of things as much as possible.

Now to decide between a 06-07 wrx wagon or pay the extra and get into a STI.

Oh yeah, USAA is great. We have them as well.

The phone call with my adjuster when something like this:

Adjuster: "So... I compared similar car sales in the NW area, but there wasn't much data. I did see you took good care of the car, and there wasn't any pre-existing damage, so I added extra for that. Anyways, the number we came up with was $11,000. Is that acceptable for you?"

Me: *Dancing around the room jumping up and down* "Yeah, I suppose that's acceptable..."

Not saying those results are typical, but it can work in your favor. To be fair, I did get an amazing deal on the car when I bought it, so they probably did give me close to the fair market value of the car, plus a little extra. It was just a pleasant ending to unfortunate series of events. I hope you enjoy the same.

    Well . . . some people can be replaced . . . that's why there are ex-wifes and ex-husbands.

On a serious note though . . . glad to hear your wife is OK . . . and as Rambo said . . . cars can be replaced (often) much easier than people.
