Mod & Void Warranty (or) Cheap Track Car

    Hey!

So long story short my dad and I both share our 2014 wrx and it's our daily driver. The only thing I've done to the car so far was put in a new shift-knob and get some nicer tires, so nothing too special. I don't drive it fast on the street and I know if I start to track it or go to a racing event I will push it to the limit and that could be a bit costly.

I'm thinking about a cheap car we can get together (that we plan to work on also and bond over) that's around maybe $10k, give or take a few grand. This will probably be a RWD coupe. An e36 comes to mind since we used to have a 1998 328i sedan but sold it after it hit way too many miles and started to have problem after problem. Thoughts?

It has to be something that can also be driven on the street if needed. We currently have 5 drivers in the family but 3 cars as of right now, plus only my dad and I are able to drive stick. If we do get a car that's an automatic, it has to have paddle-shifters or an option to change gears in some way, since an automatic with no way to control what gear you're in for racing purposes is stupid in my opinion.

Prefer something light and around 2800 to 3200 pounds or so.

    What does everyone think?

Since MR2s are now too old, buy a Miata. The engine is placed incorrectly but the same can be said of your Subaru.

Yea but it's a convertible, unless I can find a true hard top.

Agreed though, those cars are really nice.

Is it hard to fit though? I'm 5'11 so will that be a problem?

Specs say the Miata has 37.1 inches of front head room and 42.8 inches of leg room. Reports have guys 6' 5" fitting but main problem seems to be those with height from waist up.

As for a hard top, many are available aftermarket, such as CLICK HERE for Link

Solid! Plus you can get a good one for only $5k so that's convenient...

    Thanks!

One reservation: your class must allow convertibles. If it passes safety you're golden.
