I shift at 2500-3000 during my daily commute. I have seen this increase gas mileage a little.

There is no "best" shift point, you really just have to find your groove. As long as you aren't wide open throttle and redlining every gear it should be okay.

My experience has been that throttle position has more to do with mileage than RPMs in these cars. I used to be one of those folks that shifted before 3K almost all the time, to try to maximize the engine's lifespan, or whatever. Now I seek the compromise between 1-Enjoying the car, 2-Staying in the engine's sweet spot and 3-Being reasonable to get decent mileage and longevity.

With the 18G, I usually shift between 3500-4000 rpms. If I suddenly need power, it's right there.

For gas mileage I usually try to get in 6th gear as fast as possible,so I'm shifting at low RPMs,mostly by feel though,I don't watch the tach that much.
