So, I was driving along minding my own business...

While making a right turn around a round-about, the guy in the left lane decided to smash into the front, LH side of my car and drive off.

Apparently he was angry at me for merging in front of him earlier, even though I had the right of way. It was a big hit, moved the car a little, smashed my LH mirror, mangled my guard and scratched my rim. To make it even worse, I had both my kids in the car with me.

I got his number plate, called the cops, and parked up. The cops turned up with him and took our statements, he told them that he didn't know that he had hit me, that's why he drove off. He was driving a small flat deck truck, so there was no damage to his vehicle.

    What a f#$%ing tool!!!

I was actually surprised at the lack of damage. It was a hard hit. I guess the wheel took most of the impact.

    Insurance claim time.

Wow, glad you're ok. Glad the authorities nabbed the guy who tried to run.

That sucks man, good thing you got his plate instead of driving after him. The cops don't usually like it when you try and chase a hit and run. Good luck with the claim, should be pretty straight forward and breezy, but then again any insurance claim is a PITA.

Defensive driving is tough when other drivers don't give proper attention to being safe. I'm glad you're safe. Roundabouts are notoriously bad near me- I regularly see cars cross all three lanes in the turn as they cut the corner...makes it tough to do anything but drive single file through the round about.

    From memory, they're 17 X 8 or 8.5. I'm running 235's.

Had a closer inspection. Took the wheel off.

    Steering arm is bent.

Looks like the wheel bore the brunt of the impact rather than the guard. Wheel's probably buckled as well.

NZ$300 excess for insurance claim. It'll be worth it for a new mirror, guard, steering arm, wheel repair / replacement, paint and alignment.

Yay! Got the car back from the shop today.

Great work, looks like new. :-)

Total bill came to just under NZ$2500. Glad insurance is paying.

    I've missed driving it.
