Moving up...sooner than scheduled (2013 WRX to 2014 STI)

Well, the time has come sooner than I had thought. But I'll be trading in my 2013 WRX that I have owned for almost a year on a 2014 STI hatch.

    Let me explain my reasons:

I always knew that I wanted a brand new STI and I wanted it to be a hatchback (I ride bikes, keep golf clubs in my car etc etc). With the new 2015 STI it doesn't offer a hatch and well...I'm personally not into the new look at all. With that being said I am kind of backed into a corner. So I saw that my local dealer has an incoming 2014 black STI hatch listed for 38,800. So I went in and chatted my my salesman. Prices look like this....

    STI - $38,800 to $36,011

Trade in value of my car ( I purchased for 27k) - $24,000

I have an STP exhaust, XXR 527 wrapped in Pirelli 4 seasons, rally armor flaps, Eibach springs.

I was thinking I'm going to ask if it's possible I can have the STP exhaust taken from my car and put into the STI for no added cost. Hoping that wouldn't depreciate the value of my trade in.

I feel pretty good about this, I know I'm eating a few thousand dollars on my Wrx but my monthly payment is growing another $60. Which I don't think is horrible. This would be my 5th Subaru and my first STI. I already put down a deposit so now I wait (February 18th) is when it arrives.

So what I'm wondering is what you guys think? Do you think it's a smart decision? Are those numbers looking good?

    Any opinions and advice welcome!

I would swap everything over. The dealership isnt giving you extra money for the accessories. They may claim they are, but they arent. Return the car to them in stock form and have fun with the STi.

If you know you have always wanted one jump on it.

P.S. I'll swap you my stock WRX wheels and tires +500 for your XXR's?!

Torque - exactly my thoughts. I'll be slowly dismantling. Thanks!

Chief - actually I would be into that. Let me talk to my dealership and make sure it'll be cool. I'll get back to you on this. Thanks!

If that's what you want and what you can afford then I see no problem. Values and Prices will vary by region. Just go get some other quotes around town and decide for yourself.

It's not like we're going to shame you for getting an STi. Is it the most economical car? no, so some may say it's a horrible decision.

I'd take off all the mods before I traded it in though. Like has been said, the dealership won't give you extra money for them.

The dealership will probably appreciate you taking off all of your mods. It will be easier for them to sell a stock car.

Wreckingball - I knew the horrible gas milesage when I bought my first WRX. Not buying these vehicles for their ECO boost haha.

Thanks everyone for the input so far! I'll be taking my modifications off slowly over this month.

As listed above elblanco....I really enjoy having a hatchback to fit bikes and other things in my car. I also am not too fond of the newer model Subaru has released for 2015.

The worst they can say is no. I'd take the springs off and return to stock because they won't know the difference. Wheels and tires they may argue becuase when we appraise a car it's " How it sits when we appraise it". Just ask before you do anything. I would hate to see you get screwed becuase you did minor things.

Sob in addition if you don't have the stock springs I can send you mine. They are just sitting around my garage. My springs for 2011+ Wrx and Sti use the same part number. You could put your springs now on your sti
