What is this on my engine? 2014 WRX

Mounted on the front of the engine on the driver's side is what appears to be an electric blower of some kind. It has 10 gauge red and black wires going to it and an outlet for whatever it is pumping aimed towards the rear of the car. Is it cooling something? I haven't been able to follow the path of the tubing connected to the outlet.

Air pump. There strictly for emissions control during a cold start up.

Thanks for the info. Where does the pressurized air enter the engine?

From the pump or the turbo?

Not sure what you're getting at here.

The pressurized air from the electric pump. Is it injected into the exhaust like in the bad old days of belt driven air pumps or does it go into the intake stream or somewhere else?

It forces more air into the heads during cold starts to run lean so the cats warm up faster.
