Stalled in 6th while coming to stop

Meant to say 5th gear in my title... Well today was embarrassing... I was driving on the freeway on our way to dinner when I started thinking about a bunch of other stuff. As I started getting off the freeway on the off ramp and slowed down I totally forgot I was driving stick! I literally slowed down to about 5 mph at the red light when I realized the car sputtering and shaking in 5th gear. Needless to say the car stalled as I came to a stop. First time I ever zoned out like that to a point I forgot I was driving stick. Anyway, does anyone know if this caused any more damage/if any than if I just stalled from a stop in 1st? My foot was on the brake pedal the whole way to the stop.

No, shouldn't have caused any damage at all.

The shakiness was from the clutch slipping since it's the link in the chain that offered the least amount of resistance. I don't think any damage was done just more wear on the clutch disk.

^ not at all. It's the engine causing the shaking. Compression at low rpm's...

True but wouldn't there be some slippage?

Stalling your car won't cause any damage.

You likely blew your muffler bearings. You'll need to service those ASAP.

That is about the dumbest thing I have read on this forum.....ever. and I have read some of those legendary old threads.

If your clutch does not show any slippage at 220-265bhp (stock power over the years, at WOT) how in the hell would there be slippage below idle RPM when the engine is barely pumping out like 10hp?

No, that is the dumbest thing anyone's read. ...Clutches are like those chinese finger traps, the harder you pull the harder it pulls back, so when you barely apply pressure to it, it slips causing a voilent shaking. Enough to disrupt your muffler bearings. So like Zax said you should get those checked out, they're probably shot knowing how delicate they can be.
