I have a 1990 Volvo wagon that I use as a work transporter/winter beater. It has almost 300,000 miles on the clock and I never check it between oil changes (4 - 5k miles). I've seen car motors idle for hours with the drain plug pulled in the oil pan .... just to see how long it would take to blow. Definately a factory defect (valve spring/valve guide), nothing the OP did.
Subaru's sadly are not Volvo's, Toyota's or Honda's. They need oil.

And it was probably fine. Honda's engines are remarkable...well, at least in my limited experience.

It was!!! I was so surprised. I was expecting the oil to pour out of my car like molasses.

Am I the only one who checks their oil every time they get gas? It takes 2 mins and can save soooooo much money.

It's been covered, but I never adopted that practice because I felt that I wouldn't get an accurate reading.

I might check my oil once, maybe twice between changes. The first new cars I was selling in England (around 2001), the recommended oil changes (for non-performance engines) were every two years or 20,000 miles and that was all that was required for the warranty to be valid. Things sure are different here in the US.

EDIT: this thread certainly made me go check though!
