If you had $500 and a new 2013 WRX Wagon...radio upgrade?

I just got my new car and was thinking about an upgrade. I agree with other members here that the radio could use a little improvement. I've got no experience with car audio, but enjoy my music quite a bit. I never had a hot car with a great system when I was a kid...so why not now? YOLO

I was browsing a bit and thinking about something that could stream Pandora and especially HD radio. I figured I could spurge about $500. How about a subwoofer? Would that help? I'm a noob, I know.

Give me suggestions! What's worked for you?

If you ever plan on getting more power the AP is a nice tool to have. Otherwise some shifter bushings or suspension upgrades.

Opensource tune the thing. Stage 1 it. You'll forget all about the radio.

If you plan to go the route of the an audio upgrade people suggest a new HU.
I went the other route and upgraded to a Kenwood amp under the seat polk components in the front and pols in the back.
Since you have the Hatch ( I just cant call it a wagon when its shorter then the 4dr) You can fit a regular single sub box or powered sub without losing practicality. You would need to splice into the speakers which is a pain and not the best solution.

They do make a nice custom enclosure for a 10" though its about 300 for the box alone a good amount of people have and love them.

Okay, I've explored a bit about this tuning business and it is intriguing... but I can't help but think that my new ride is probably gonna get me into enough trouble as it is! haha

    Tempting, though...

The stereo is so bad I had to upgrade it. Stage 1 is also a must. Do both in whatever order you prefer.

Doesn't the accessport void your warranty?

I had a 6.1" Alpine HU installed ($450, plus $150-200 install if you can't do it yourself), amp under passenger seat, and a sub put in the back (another $500). Pricey but if music is important to you, then an upgrade is a must. Agree on the YOLO thing, this is my first "system". And it was well overdue.

If you go to Crutchfield Kenwood and pioneer both have in dash touch screens with DVD built in for under 350

On Wednesday, I am to drop off my Silver hatch for installation of an amp, subwoofer and to get the windows tinted. I'm going to shop around and see what HU might be best for me. No hurry.

Warranties don't get "voided." The way it works is that each warranty claim is evaluated, and if an aftermarket part is determined to be the cause of the problem, then the claim can be denied. So, if you have the car tuned and the engine blows, the warranty claim will probably be denied. You could come back the next day with a problem with the stereo and have that claim upheld though.
