I plan on buying a 2013 Impreza hatchback (had to back out of a used WRX I was going to get, that's another story). Anyway, I want to bring my cousin along to test drive the car as well, but he is only 17 with a NYS learner's permit. However, since I have a license, and I was test-driving with him, would the dealership allow him to drive?

If I had the exact experience you describe, no matter what my outcome was it would not affect your outcome. I recommend contacting the dealer directly, since they're the ones that will decide whether to let a minor without a driver's license drive a $20k vehicle on public roads.

Yeah, it's really up to the dealer's call. Of course he could ride along, but I seriously doubt they'd let him drive. Just ask them and see.

I'd go out on a limb here and say he's pretty much sol... liability would be HUGE for the dealer if anything happened with him behind the wheel. His fault or not. Its not really worth the risk to the dealer.

SUCH IS MANGO!
If it were up to me.. no.
So you want your cousin, who is not and has presumably never been legally licensed to drive, to test drive a car you are looking to buy for what purpose?

if you buying the car why do you want him to drive it on the test drive? Have him drive it after you buy it.

I have really no idea, but why would a dealer, any dealer let someone drive a car that has no possible way to buy a car? Why do you want him to drive the car?
Ummmm what!? I'm so confused.
Why does he need to drive a car you're buying?
Also Subaru hardly lets anyone drive these cars without proof they will buy it. They don't allow joy rides. Good luck though.

The answer here in Oregon is no. You must provide a copy of full coverage insurance and a drivers license to test drive. Most dealers won't even allow a test drive of a WRX of STi so, if you did get a test drive, your lucky.
