Smile My trip computer is WRONG!!!!

Just finished a 600 mile trip, my trip computer says I got 21.9mpg but when I did the math I actually got 25.72 miles per gallon. That was a relief, I thought I was getting better than 22mpg and I was. Last time I trust my trip computer.

Eh, they're all known to be not 100% accurate. I would only really look at it to get an idea.

Yeah, when I've owned a vehicle that had one, I really only trusted it as a comparative tool.

There are other factors that come in to play. When you fill up, some pumps cut off before the tank is full, possibly off by a gallon or two. Interestingly, on my car, it usually reads about a mile or two more than I calculate by taking the miles driven divided by how many gallons it takes to fill up.

I attached an UltraGauge and I find the built in average MPG is reading one gallon over what the Ultragauge reads.

To get an honest idea of mileage means to collect several data points and take a running average. This will help to mitigate the differences between where the pumps cut off, etc.

An onboard mileage indicator, like any gauge, is only as good as its last calibration. I rather doubt that the factory meters are subjected to any calibration at the factory.

I keep my mileage hidden, I don't want to know...

However, my trip odometers (haven't reset them from when I picked up the car) have 4 more miles than my overall odometer. Haven't figured that one out yet.
Not as many parts left over this time... what am I missing?
