Progress Thread: Kronos/BYT Tunes 08+ WRX / STI

So some of you may remember months ago we are working on staged tunes for both the WRX & STI. This is a Callaboration between us at Kronos Performance and Nick @ Backyard Turbo.

I know there are other companies out there who make stage tunes that you can download but the point of our tunes were to make safe, reliable and strong tunes that improve your performance throughout your powerband, not just peaking so you can claim you made XXX HP.

We started off on a street tune to get a round about settings we would like and then we hit the dyno today to get some numbers and see improvements.

It was VERY hot today, especially in the shop itself which was maintaining 100 Degrees. We literally had to ice down the top mount and intake in between runs just to get it to a decent temperature. We will more than likely have to do dyno again for numbers on a cooler day to see an before and after.

Now just a disclaimer, these dynos are just to show the progress. These aren't the final numbers due to a couple of situations...temperature and we couldn't get a proper tach signal on the WRX for a good Torque reading. We may have to go to a different dyno or try again. The temperature made a huge difference due to heatsoak and not having proper ventilation.

Test Car: 2009 Subaru STi
Dyno: DynoJet
Temperature: 100 Degrees
Modifications: Magnaflow Catback
Stock Dyno Tune Dyno Number: 247.2 HP / 237.6 TQ
Stage 1 Tune (So Far) Number: 271 HP / 298 TQ




Test Car: 2012 Subaru WRX
Dyno: DynoJet
Temperature: 100 Degrees
Modifications: SPT Catback
Stock Dyno Tune Numbers: 248 HP
Stage 1 Tune (So Far) Numbers: 265 HP

50whp gain through the midrange (25whp peak) isn't bad for a S1 tune. I'd be curious to see a graph where the pull started earlier (rather than 3K RPMs)...

Yeah it was strange but it was like as soon as we started it shot up to mid 90s and stayed 100 in the shop the whole time.

As of right now, there isn't anything in concrete but what we are planning on doing is offering Stage 1 and 2 Tunes that will allow for intake which we will help scale for no additional charge. As far as the intercooler, I'm not sure if we will have any support for it without any additional charges. This is stuff we are still discussing since it will be BYT doing the adjustments. I will inquire about it.
