i wasnt told that it was a WRX. I saw it. Assumed it was. all emblooms were taken off the turnk. They even printed car fax for me and right at the top it says subaru 2.5l RS which i didnt even think to look for. I test drove it. Took it took my Japanese Specialist mechanic shop, who are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and trustworthy and they hadnt even realized it was a 2.5l RS because it has the 2.0 litre turbo charged wrx engine and intercooler and everything. I literally just picked it up from them after dropping it off last night and they said all the vin numbers match and did a full inspection on the mileage history. it was definetly a RS before but he said it has been fully converted into a wrx. Ive driven 2,000 miles on it and not a single rattle or knock. Fluids are stable. They told me it was putting out around 300 HP. Im geussing they have a pretty accurate way of telling. Only paid $8,000 for the car at 100,000k. So its not like i was paying in the dbl digits. The stage 2 clutch is fairly new. the engine is fairly new. So none of this was illegal. I got the title today and tags and all that good stuff. Lucked out in my mind..

Also on my carfax sheet it says it was inspected by an authorized subaru dealer 5 days before i got it. I just called them and they verified all the info i was given and said All if the converting work has been done in the last 30,000 miles or so. i bought this car from a licensed dealer, so im not to worried about it at this point. ill keeop yall updated

It sounds like its not stock, have someone who knows subarus tell you what parts are aftermarket and datalog it.

That will give you an idea where to go next if it is putting down anything close to 300hp it is likely already tuned.

You need to understand exactly WHAT was replaced. There are more differences between the RS and WRX than just the engine. Hopefully the suspension, transmission, and rear differential (WRX has rear LSD) were also upgraded.

yes... suspension is brand new, tranny is almost new. Im going to drop it off so each aftermarket part can be fully inspected and logged, a subar uspecialist is coming out to do it, Also for future parts reference

That is good news. CA has the best emissions regulations so if it's OK in CA it's generally OK anywhere in the US.

So, here is an update incase anyone has ever had this happen to them. I posted this thread over a year ago and since then, have a little bit more info on the vehicle than I did at the time. This was originally a 2.5 RS, and in 2010, the owner did a full WRX Swap, harness, ecu, suspension, struts, wiring, IC, TD04 Turbo, ECT. Basically it looks like someone bought and RS and a WRX and just swapped everything over to the RS, besides interior and what not. It still has an RS transmission, which has shorter gear ratio's , but I kind of enjoy spooling up a little quicker since I live in the city and it seems more practical. I have since taken my subie to a very reputable shop in Tualatin to have it inspected before I decided to have my first set of upgrades installed. We got a my Defi boost gauge in, Invidia bellmouth dp, and a Grimmspeed MBC. He was able to tune my ecu ( luckily was not married with any AP's) and set my MAX boost psi at 16 while I am still running stock turbo. Decided to stop there for awhile and see how everything holds up. Probably around the 300 hp at the crank-ish. vaccum always sat a -20 and would sometimes drop to 18 if it was just been driven for the first time. After a few months I felt confident that everything was swapped correctly with functioning parts, my tuner even commented how well it ran and how well all my compression tests turned up. So I went on to prepare for my turbo upgrade which consisted of STI pinks 565cc injectors, walbro fuel pump 255l , Grimm speed uppipe to avoid having the cat ruin the new turbo, and I am curious if I should thing about any engine reinforcement upgrades if I am looking to get up to 300 AWHP. I have since also found other upgrades through out the vehicle that the dealer probably did not notice. It has the pink STI strut bats for both the front and rear. Has a cusco lower H bar. Megan racing springs and Technafit SS brake lines. Ive added quite a bit of cosmetic stuff as well but with all that said, my insurance is only $40.00 a month. I figure at this point, with the car being paid off completely since day one, and saving so much money over the course of 15 months doing a lot work my self like fluid changes and brake , rotors ect, and through insurance, that it would be cheaper to continue to insure on the original RS parts, hoping no accident will happen soon ( knock on wood) or worse case scenario, if I did total it, should still be able to buy back and part it out without much $ loss. But crap, for $7,800 ish for the car and 40 a month for insurance, maintenance has been surprisingly cheap and surprised since I hear so many others stating how expensice they are to keep replacing parts. No blown head gaskets, or oil leaks, coolant leaks, tranny is holding strong along with the clutch. Timing belt and waterpump was the only thing needing to be replaced when I first bought the car, although I am curious of one thing. Mechanic said it looked to be the original factory timing belt. The chassis had 109,000 miles on it. I have no idea how many miles we on the engine that was swapped in. I did how ever figure out ( I think) that it is from an 02 wrx since it has the "005" engine head code on it. So wondering if it was a lower mileage engine than what the chassis had since the timing belt had not been replaced.
Here are a few updated pics of my RS swap stage 2+ wrx.

lol believe me I know. I have since taken them out, installed the original holagen until I can get some HID specific headlights so I stopped blinding people. My apologies for posting a pic of the HID's, I copied and pasted the wrong IMG code. Now no more Turrable lights.
