I just picked up a 2003 WRX Wagon. As we all know, it is suggested that this car be fed Premium gas. However, I am a poor college grad, and I did not buy this car primarily for its performance capabilities.
So, my question: If I feed my WRX anything below Premium gas, will I only diminish its performance, or will I be doing the car any undue wear/damage?
Thanks,
Eric

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
Not to sound mean at all because I don't want to come off that way but it the maker of the car suggests Premium Fuel only, I would think that since they made the car I would just do what they say. I went from a regular gas car to a turbo and I learned about the detenation problem and I wouldn't ever take that chance in messing up my engine.
so, I would just stick to the suggested fuel to use.
use 91.
use 91.
use 91.
I understand you're a poor college kid... but 91 or nothing.

so using regular unleaded is bad??
PEOPLE!!! For real? Lets do the math, typically youll see premium .20 to .30 cents higher than regular. So were talking $5 more a fill up at the max compared to using regular. If $5 makes that much of a difference for you, you should be using public transit and sell your car.
2005 WRB WRX "was" STAGE 2
**** thats what i have been using on my 02 wrx
and ive kinda been having some problems lately
really?? cuz my cwl just turned on yesterday and my car was acting a little wierd then i noticed a little smoke coming out from between my wastegate and my uppipe.
First of all, thank you everyone for your advice - I would have never known about the detonation issue.
In response to the above quote, it's not as though I was unaware of the base model or the capabilities of the WRX. I definitely want the capability to perform, but my primary concern was not strictly that. I want have it when I need it, even if I don't use it all the time.
...plus, the WRX looks ten times sexier than the base.
haha whoops i meant cel
