Nothing beats the looks of a Bugeye with a decent (not extreme) body kit, wheels, and slightly lowered. Mechanically, its hard to beat years of R&D, so the newest model would probably be the best in that category.

I think an OS 2.5rs 2 door is sick! I would love to find one of those and throw a turbo on it with all the supporting mods.

IMO the Bugeye looks the best but for the pure "best" I would go for the 09wrx, but since you said besides it, I will say... the 05wrx. The 06/07 are "better" cars than the 05 but personally I'm not a fan of the looks![]()

Looks: Bugeye
In regard to everything else, the 09'. However, since that's not an option, the 06 because of all the upgrades made in suspension, braking, displacement, etc...

This is really an opinion poll rather than a question that has a discrete answer.
Looks? None of the WRX's imported here since '02 are beauty pageant winners, IMO. A few tasteful touches (painted skirts on the early cars, a slight lowering, reasonable rims, etc.) go a long way. Obviously, being the Granddaddy and all, I'm a bugeye guy, and feel that they have a "standout quirkiness" that is appealing.
Stock mechanicals? The '09, of course. Fantastic car, right from the factory. The '08 will probably rank near the bottom with most enthusiasts, due to it's stock softer suspension, but still has a fine engine with as much or more potential than any WRX that preceded it.
Interior? The '02-'04 cars have cheap interiors. No getting around it. Still nicer than some domestic rentals that I get in, even now, but nothing to write home about by Japanese car standards. '05-'07 had a nice step up for interior quality, IMO, and the '08+ cars are heads and shoulders better. Subaru has made up a LOT of ground in this area...at least to my eyes.
Value? If buying used, a fairly low-mileage, well-maintained, unmodified bug or blob ('02-'05) will get you a lot of fun for the money, these days, and good reliability to boot.
Just my 2X10^-2 cents, of course.![]()

Everybody knows the 2020 bugeye is the best. And that isn't a typo, I'm from the future and brought the car back with all the cool features.
But then again, we are on THIS forum so obviously the 2011 Wrx is better than any STi ever produced.

And here I was thinking, "wait, why the '09 and not the '11-'13?"
I have a '12, but I have long admired the '06 STI in blue with the big hood scoop, wing and gold wheels.
I think the bugeyes are cool too. I wave when I see a WRX or STI, regardless of what year it is.
Someone driving a nice looking Legacy GT waved once.
