    2009 WRX First Impressions

Edited---Here's pics of the 1st detail I did using Duragloss Total Performance Polish, followed by a topper of their Aquawax a few days later. Duragloss makes a very fine product and can be ordered off the web.

Picasa Web Albums - Chas - WRX-1st Detail

I now have the short shift kit installed as well. 900 miles so far. I guess it's about time to open it up a little!

2009 WRX 5-dr. Premium First Impressions:

    -Love the styling
-Interior could be more upscale (VW GTI blows it away)
-Seat comfort fine, but we'll see after a long trip----don't care much for buiult-in headrests.
-Power OK, but does not seem as quick as my '06 VW GTI (Revo Chipped)---My Cobb Stage 1 goes on tomorrow.
-First tank of gas--22.2 mpg, and I was on the boost quite a bit
    -Total miles now 430
-Ipod kit works great---good sound (not great) with the 10 spkr upgraded system---sound better in SRS Surround mode on most songs.
    -Like the auto climate control
-Wish front windows were both auto down AND up
-Brakes OK, but need just a tad more assist
-Brilliant Silver color looks cool with the gray wheels

Will be doing 1st complete detail this weekend and will post pics afterwards.

How does it feel now with the Stage 1? 91 or 93 octane?

That is very strange that it doesn't feel as fast as your 06 GTI. The 06 GTI is a 15 second car, and the 09 WRX is a mid to high 13 second car. Maybe the AWD makes the acceleration so smooth that you can't feel it as much? I don't know, but that is definitely weird.

I agree with the auto windows comment. I also wish the passenger side had at least auto down.

i've driven both and i'll agree with the OP. chipped gti's are nothing to mess around with. even when completely stock, they feel very quick (especially with the dsg transmission in sport mode)

Well, for one, the numbers don't lie. I highly doubt a stock GTI could take a stock 09 WRX on a good day. Besides, the power increase in the 09 WRX with a stage 1 tune with an AP2 shelf map is incredible; probably more than the gains seen by a chipped GTI.

thats fine. however, we arent talking about numbers.. key word was.. the wrx does not FEEL as quick as the GTI. its just an opinion, & i was agreeing with him. all other factors set aside.

Well, yeah, like I said, that's weird.

AWD seems to take away some of that extreme acceleration feeling. When I had my Mustang, I drove an STI that was just as quick in the 1/4 as my GT was, but it felt so much slower when it was accelerating. Maybe it's the same with FWD, and it just feels faster?

Yeah, it's nuts. 317 lb.ft of torque at the wheels for a stage 2 WRX is insanity.

VW's 2.0T is, IMO, one of the best 2.0L engines ever made. very smooth, good power down low. and when they're chipped, they make some serious wtq.

kinda getting off topic but i agree... i also have an E46 M3 and at the track a buddy in his 2.0 GTI shipped was totally keeping up. it was humbling to say the least.

I have to agree about the whole feeling slower thing. But I will say this, I used to have an 04 STi and now I have an 09 WRX sedan and holy cow this thing feels just as fast.

Oh and btw, I'm new here lol
