This is a discussion on Project Hatch (aka project grocery getter part II) within the Everyday Impreza Talk forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; I guess w/ so many running their maps they have to err firmly on the safe side...

Not really unless you're lead footed on road trips - it just reduces boost. If you're cruising you won't see much difference, but you will notice the loss of power if you suddenly want to overtake something. At least that's my experience with the one time I tried it, although I gave up and restored Stage 1 very quickly.

ahhh- maybe not so handy then I thought they might be limiting fuel tied to throttle position or something along those lines

    sounded good on paper anyways

make sure to post your impressions

never owned a AP (always had Ecutek) so can't say on the valet mode- I think it limits revs to 3000-3500 and takes away all boost

probably Feb/March- definitely before spring is sprung

+1 on this experience of economy mode.

hopefully the wives aren't reading- that's how you "sell" the AP- "honey this thing will pay for itself w/ the added fuel economy"

I've had a version 1 AP for about three or four years now. The economy mode does limit boost and is really only effective for around town driving, not so much for highway. The valet mode limits the engine speed, I forget how much, but really does work. I hate to valet my car, and rarely do, but on the few occasions I have, the valet mode does work very well. One bloke gave me my car back and told me he thought something was wrong with it. I chuckled, re-programmed it and chirped the tyres on my way out of the car park.
    I sail, therefore I am.

Nah, I don't need that one. I just say "I'm paying for your car, so I'm going to buy an AP for my car." Seems fair.

    ^ nice

I was reading one of the tuners say it was actually a safer map as well (safer then stock)- evidently the oe map is a little lean in the upper rev band- also the AP "corrects" the OL/CL delay the factory puts in- win:win

crawled under the car today to get some measurements for the Motion Ratio (MR)

simply measure the length of the lower arm, then measure the length of the arm from the inner pivot point to where the shock is mounted. divide the latter measurement by the first to get your MR- in this case 353mm/453mm or 0.78

what's it all mean? on a strut suspension the MR is very close to 1.0 (.966 for the Impreza)- this number allows you to calculate wheel rate- the effective rate at the wheel- the spring rate is timed by the MR squared, thus on a strut suspension the wheel rate is very close to the actual spring rate

on a double wishbone (or other non-strut) setup the rate is less than 1.0 as the spring is further inboard and has less effect than if the spring was fully outboard

this is the reason comparing spring rates between different cars- say a Honda vs a Subaru- is meaningless (unless they happened to share the same MR

w/ the 09 WRX as an example the front rate of 216# times .966 squared (.93) = 202#- the front wheel rate, the rear would be 194# times .78 squared (.62) = 120#- rear wheel rate- you can see that the MR in the rear drastically effectives the overall rate
