My biggest problem with people who complain about their '08s is that they had no complaint until the '09 came out. It's as if by making the '09 WRX better, that somehow makes the '08 worse. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I've loved my car since I bought it last October. I had a TON of fun driving it since then. When Subaru announced the changes that were coming in '09 would it make sense for me to all of a sudden decide to hate my car? Of course not.

You either do the research and enjoy your car regardless of what comes out afterwards, or you're one of those people who's never going to be happy unless you always have the absolute best car ever always ever (which is simply impossible given all of the subjective factors in what makes one car "better" than another). Personally, I take pride in being a member of the former category.

I certainly could live with stock numbers but considering I have a perrin stage 1 on the way, I personally am not satisfied with it.

So there are my thoughts about the 08 wrx. Needs a bit more getty up and go, and definitely some suspension mods. I personally like the fact that it doesn't look like a ricer car. It suits me, as a young professional it's nice to have a "normal" looking car with lots of potential for upgrades. Others have said it before and I'll say it again I feel like subaru just grew up with us. The 02 came out when I was in undergrad and I thought it was perfect for me, its nice to know that in 08 the wrx is still the perfect car for me.

I think that it depends on what you're looking for. I moved to a 2008 4D Premium from a Passat 1.8T. I wanted something that was fast, fun, but comfortable enough for my daily 20 mile/55 min each way, commute. The 2008 IS fun - I love dropping down to 2nd and flooring it then going up through the gears on a couple of sweeping turns on my trip. What else would I like? A better clutch is way up there - I still struggle to pull away smoothly after having it for 9 months, even thought I've driven stick for the last 30 years. I'd also like one-touch up on the drivers window, as it is a pain to raise the window and change gear when pulling away from a toll booth.

If I was buying this year, it would be tough. The Imprezza GT is out because I want a stick, but the ride of the WRX might be too rough, and the summer tires would be a major problem in the snowy Winters that we get here.

Do you have an exhaust yet? If not it will help a TON with shifting.
First gear becomes gravy when you can hear it.

Unfortunately the 09's still make me

just not as hard. 08's are like a dry heave whereas the 09's it's like I drank too much but I can pass out and wake up to my 06 the next day.

They look like a Corolla or something bland like that. They're bigger, heavier and not as sporty. The only positives are higher HP, increased interior space, and a nicer quality interior. But the higher HP is offset by the larger, heavier car so that leaves just the interior space and quality. I definitely feel the interior needed an upgrade/update but not at this cost. I'll take the bland, boring, simple interior on my STi any day since it comes in a super lighweight car with great handling, great grip, outstanding balance, and gobs and gobs of power.

Actually, the 08-09 is lighter than the previous STI.

AMEN! I don't think any WRX made has been GOOD LOOKING. Just some that are ok. Although the older body styles resemble what you all have in your imagination a WRX, the newer body style incorporates newer ideas with more room, on a good chassis, and excellent performance!

i think the 08 and 09 WRX look way better then previous models. to each there own. i love both the old and new STI's look.
