Piston ring problems? This is news to me.please elaborate.

I try and keep myself up to date regarding my car with help from friends with access to all recalls and issues with Subarus and this is news to me.

IT was "SOO" bad they yanked all the 08 cars off the lots? Did they send them back to Japan?WOW.

Once again. Please add info.

Here's another way to think about it: I own the worst turbo Impreza ever available in the US. Although my car has the revised coolant reservoir, the wider gears, and didn't suffer from random CELs like the earliest of 02s, it's still a bugeye car. They've improved the car with every new version. Still, I find it difficult to get rid of my car, it's just that good.

The later cars are ages ahead in so many areas, they're better in every way.

Honestly id choose my 2.0 liter 227 hp 05 over the 08 or 09 any day! the 09s look like everyday mazda sedans with a weird whole in the hood. Why couldnt subaru just go with the 07s and just make performance changes to that, instead of making a whole new monstrosity! When i first decided to get a wrx, the performance at the time and cost really drew me in, but what really made me want to get one was the aggressive unique look it had. It was like a beefy tuner car! sorry for ranting but im just in awe right now. i cant believe this is what subaru has become. I know im going to get a bunch of negative replies but surely someone feels the same way as me. If they keep coming out with wrx's that look like this, theres no way im going to buy a subaru in the future.
Easy there Mr. Rant, Subaru has decided to make changes and they're for the better, wether you like it or not..

If you feel this strongly about looks than you should've never bought a Subaru, as these cars claim their fame in performance superior handling and a reasonable price... best bang for your buck in my opinion.

You can cry all you want about how "ugly the new bodystyle" is but for the real car people what really matters are the things that I mentioned above that make you want to own a Subaru.
Oh yeah by the way the 09 WRX is the most powerful WRX released up to date~2.5 liter 265HP~ ugly or not.

Test drove an 08 WRX yesturday and

2 things disappointed me, the lack of road feel it had & the seats. My 03 has seats that hug you in, the 08 seats lacked that sports car feel to them. Not knowing a whole lot about the 08's and aside from the seats, is there anyone out there that has put springs or sways on their 08's & that can tell me if that helped the road feel? I like the aggressive looks of the older WRX's but the new style doesnt bother me.

My opinion is that... I'm glad they were so Johnny on the Spot in revamping the car so quickly (for '09).

Assess your priorities. It's already got the warranty ticking; find out how long. Could be 2 months or who knows, the car sat in a garage forever and the warranty is a year gone. Is the lower price worth the lost performance edge of the 09? Or do you plan to remedy that anyway? And if so, do you really want to tear into a new car, which costs you money and possibly that warranty.

If you can get that '08 for a real steal you may find it is worth it.

I test drove the '08 and the '09. '08 is definitely softer and more subtle in terms of power, i almost could not feel the turbo lag. I personally like the hiked peak RPM's of the '09's, it gave more of the old boosty feel but it was still smooth. Simply put, the '08 did feel like a car more for the masses (not that I can blame Subaru for that).

I say test drive both years, make you decision from there. You may be happy getting an '08 with the SPT exhaust, I hear you wll gain 5-10 HP off it already. If you can get the '08 for 5-8K cheaper, you can then spend some of that money modding the '08 to your standards.

Me - I placed an order for the '09 based on my test drives and the fact I won't be doing performance mods for years. It will be my daily driver and a "super" baby car till then.

Truth be told I have a '04 RS, and a year or two later really regretted not getting the WRX. When news of the '09's came out I took it as a sign from G that it was time to get one!!!!

Ok, maybe I'll do one performance mod in the near future after Roxie arrives - a rear swaybar. ; )~

funny how people say they didn't like the looks of the 08 but are all excited about the 09. well they look pretty much the same as the 08. so now the car has more HP and torque, better spring setup they look really good.

yeah, they look hella better now!

no, i feel ya. they look the same, but so much more under the hood (and chassis) for almost the same $!

I actually wish I could get an '09 WRX without the spoiler. If anyone wants to trade a black WRX 09 trunk for an 08 with no spoiler let me know...
