When driving at highway speeds your hood scoop allows cool air to rush into and cool the intercooler, this allows the pressurized air to be more efficient in creating boost in your turbocharger because it is denser air.
So basically cooler air = faster turbo subie So to answer your question, heat soak is when the intercooler absorbs the heat rising from your steaming hot engine and turbo. This robs lots of power from your tubro. |

Elevated temperature usually due to lack of air flow -- I assume we're talking about the intercooler and I say it with a bit of dismay, as intercooler heat soak is IMO meaningless (just wait...) whereas heat buildup in other components, like the brakes, is much more important.
Search either here or on Scoobymods for blarg's thread about how to prevent heat soak in the Impreza IC using less than $5 of everyday hardware store parts. Well worth a look if you're concerned.
