Hey Subaru, Can We Get Some Direct Injection Over Here?

So maybe this has been discussed before but from everything I've read direct injection seems like a no brainer for the WRX/STi. It appears to be the new standard, enabling the car to make better low end power, increased fuel economy and a cleaner burn. So performance is better and it's more "green". Better for everyone? I think so. Any ideas why this technology hasn't yet been implemented?

There could be many factors involved. As a guy who works in an engineering environment, I've come to understand that there's no such thing as a "no brainer". Before a feature or upgrade finds its way onto one of our existing production machines, issues such as cost justification, manufacturability, compatibility with existing equipment, physical space limitations, accompanying electronics, engineering resources, and even corporate politics have to be resolved. I'm sure that FHI/Subaru (or any large automaker) has their own interesting internal minefield to cross before a new feature makes it to one of our production cars.

I'm sure it's on their 'to do' list. It's still not a terribly common feature on cars, give them a little time.
