2 days and 2000 miles
I just moved to Colorado and drove my car on a 2000 mile road trip from Mass to get here. I figured I'd give a summary of the trip.
Total days: 3 Total miles: 2000+ Gas mileage: ~23 mpg Police stops: 1 Tickets: 0 Day 1 - 150 miles I drove from my house in Mass to my parent's house in upstate NY to see them before I left for Colorado. Nothing exciting to report. Day 2 - 800 miles I left at about 5 am and drove from upstate NY to western Indiana with a long stop in Ohio to chase steelhead. I only got about a half dozen small fish but none of the monsters I was really looking for. I passed a speed trap in western NY but I wasn't driving that fast so I wasn't too worried, but the cop pulled out after I passed him. I watched him close on me and then pass me, then put on his lights and start to pull into the median, then change his mind and come back out into traffic. He pulled up on my bumper and followed me for a mile or so before lighting me up. He pulled me over and asked for my license and reg, then said "The reason I pulled you over is your aftermarket exhaust. It's illegal in NY to have an exhaust louder than stock. I didn't notice until after I pulled you over that you weren't from NY. Have a nice day." What a moron. From western NY until I got west of the Chicago area, there was a speed trap every 5-10 miles. It was unreal. Day 3 - 1000+ miles I left western Indiana at about 4 am and headed west. From the time I left my hotel until I got to Denver, I didn't see a police car for about 1000 miles. It was unreal. I stuck my cruise control on 78 (70 mph speed limit) and just cruised. There's not much to see in Nebraska so I really don't have much to say! ![]() Overall, it was really a much faster trip than I expected. I did the bulk of the 2000 miles in 2 days. The car performed perfectly. The one thing I really wanted to do I couldn't, which was a top speed run in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska. I have fairly old tires on the car and didn't want to risk it. Oh well, maybe another time!

very cool. i have to drive from central kansas to central new jersey next week. 1400 mile drive, so it should be fun. i typically don't have too much trouble with cops, and by that i mean i don't see any until i hit st louis. glad you had a safe trip!

Glad you made it safe and sound, and got some real bonding time in with the Subie!
![]() I'm guessing you didn't hitch a trailer up to your subie and instead had your stuff shipped in advance, which probably made the drive a lot more enjoyable! You enjoying CO yet?

CO is great so far. Excellent weather, cost of living is pretty cheap, and I'm enjoying my job. I think it took me 5 or 6 tanks at $55-60 a pop so that's what, about $300?

I can't wait to do the same thing from San Antonio, TX to Portland, OR! Its going to be a blast. Doing it in 4 days though... one stop in Lubbock or Amarillo, another in Denver, one more in Idaho before a nice cruise through the Dalles into Portland...
Sounds like you had a nice trip! |

Let me apologize in advance for my state being the most boring the union to drive through......well, maybe second to Montana, but at least they don't have a speed limit.

Check out this photographer's work. He has several albums in Utah. He also has several in CO in case you are heading through the Rockies. He's also an avid mountain biker so his pics are largely bike related. If you're not into bikes, then try to look around the bikers and see the landscape. whiterim1 |

![]() This is most likely going to be my route, but as I get closer, the more I want to get into Portland faster and faster and the route might change... oh yeah, I have to go through Denver (her dad works for Alaska Air and its the closest she can fly for free...) to pick up the woman so she can join me in the fun. |

I like the I-70 corridor from Denver to Glenwood Springs, but I start to lose interest from there to SLC. If you guys end up needing shuteye in western CO I'd try Glenwood Springs. There's a huge hot springs there. It's massive really.
I actually like the north route better, through Winter Park, Granby, and Steamboat Springs. It's less developed and more twisting state highway than I-70. The Columbia River Gorge is cool too. |
