Thats insane on the stock turbo.

Mine seems kind of dull, i seem to get split personalties from it. sometimes it pulls in the lowers rpms and sometimes it wont at all. When i bought the car at 58,000 miles it had a MBC on it and a BOV but i brought it back to stock. Im concerned my turbo was pushed too far by the previous owner.

I randomly get very sharp and quick jutters in the car when at WOT. Not sure if that is boost creep or not.

when I bought my 08 wrx it was a certified pre owned, so I have the 100k mile warranty, and the finance guy told me to complain about the turbo at 50 and just before 100, because its free replacemnt so I might as well get it done...it made me lol

Is it stock? I used to get random little shudders in it under hard acceleration, usually around 4k rpm. From what I could find, it's a normal thing known as the Subaru shudder. It's something that just happens on Subaru turbo cars. Mine went away when I flashed Cobb Stage 1 and hasn't come back.

all i have is a SRS Catback but it did it before i got it on there. It only happens when coasting then mashing the throttle in 2nd 3rd and 4th.

ME: so, i'm thinking about getting an WRX now since my dad can't pay for insurance for the rsx-s. what do you think?
HIM: so you know how to swap turbo?
ME: why would i swap the turtbo
HIM: because the turbo's average life is 60,000 mi
    ME: i see
HIM: it's a pain in the ass
HIM: plus you won't get good gas mileage
    ME: on a wrx?
ME: it says 24mpg in city and 30mpg on highway
    HIM: right...

The car I'm looking at tomorrow has 72k miles, and if what he's saying is right, then I should ask the dealer if a new turbo was put in. I'm kind of new to turbo's and non-honda cars, but I hope what he's saying is wrong because I feel like he's putting me under a bus. After checking out WRX's, i'm ready to let go of hondas!
    1) I would have thought the insurance for the WRX would be higher than the RSX-S.

    2) +1 to the folks calling BS on 60k failure rate. But that doesn't mean the turbo on the car your looking at isn't about to fail. All parts fail sometimes, it's just not typical though for the turbo to go at 60k.

    3) You'll know when your turbo fails. Can't miss it...

    4) To the other poster: I wouldn't put too much concern in what a stock temp "gauge" is telling me. Treat it like an idiot light, if it goes in the danger zone.

    5) Mileage: I get about 300 miles out of a tank on a normal commute period. That's with my current setup.

Sounds like it may be what I experienced. Mine was usually in 3rd or 4th gear. Got WOT, and I would get a little stutter around 4k. One thing to check is your airbox. I changed the filter and didn't realize that I hadn't gotten the bottom half of the airbox in the slots that hold it closed properly. So it would suck up hot air from the engine bay and made the stutter a bit worse. But the stutter was always there until I flashed the Cobb Stage 1.

I know I'm really late in this post...but my recommendation is buy it. I am at 133k with stock motor trans turbo and only one clutch at 110k. I'm just replacing my springs now...car has had quirks here and there but nothing major. I suggested selling it for a newer car for reliability purposes and the unanimous response was just..,"why...?" Trust me, get it and you'll be happy you did

Hes probably still hasnt made a decision about buying the car after 5 years.
    Find a low-mileage one-owner unmodified '04/'05 and you're golden.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.
