The problem isnt the fact that 16" wheels are lighter than 18" wheels.... 16" wheels with 16" tires should weigh roughly the same as 18" wheels with 18" tires shouldnt they?

weight of metal >> weight of rubber

amount of metal in 18" wheel > amount of metal in equivalent 16" wheel.

    So no.

Did I miss something? Or did you just post up to prove Ray right? Because that's what happened?

...Oh, I just noticed you quoted the tires heavier than the rims. Gotcha. I believe his point was that the difference in rim weight from one size to the next is a much bigger gap than tire size.

I'd like to constructively add that when I take my 19" Axis Ne-O's off to go back to stock for my winter wheels, it feels like I kicked 3 fat chicks out of the trunk.

Exactly. Doing the math, he's +2 pounds on each wheel to run the 18" wheels, in unsprung weight. It makes a difference. I'm taking his word for it on the tire weight.
