Tools needed :
2- 14mm sockets
2- 17mm sockets
1- jack
2- jack stands
1- tube of white grease
Time needed - less than an hour
stuff that came in the box
subaru told me i needed the doughnut gasket thats in the red bag but i didnt use it
3 shots of the new pipes
old exhaust on the car
first you wanna get the car on jacks then jack stands
here are the 14mm bolts you need to take out in the rear section... (note i always like to take an exhaust out from the rear go foward)
then you want to want to take off the exhaust hangers
after you get those 4 off you need to get the last one that holds the that pipe from the catback to the exhaust (note you need to keep the bolts and springs that are near the catback)
then all you need to do is take the 2 14mm bolts that are connected to the cat
and we are off
then you want to (well i greased the exhaust hangers to make it easier for the new stuff to go in)
next i hooked up this exhaust hanger up and put the 2 14mm bolts back on
here are the gaskets for the new exhaust and also the new 17mm bolts that came with the exhaust
for the new gaskets 1 of them goes on each peice
next put the exhaust on the hangers and bolt it up using the new 17mm bolts
and your done it should look something like this
if i forgot something or made a mistake please pm me![]()

nice DIY, looks to be easy. is the sound of the SPT that much louder than stock though? i've been looking at the youtube clips and without any other mods on the vehicle, it seems like the SPT isn't that much louder than stock, almost unrecognizeable.
im considering getting one for me 08 5-door, but really want to hear one in person before i do so.
Nice write-up, yeah I always go back to my parents house since they have a garage and my mom came out and said so what exactly are you doing (it was like 11:30 at night)
I had just taken the stock one off and put them side by side, even she got the comparison...
It's not going to wake the neighbors, but it is night and day compared to the stock setup...
i put on the CBE on my 5-door hatch and LOVE it! its not too loud, and its not too soft, but it resonates that boxer rumble just enough to take notice. btw, i picked it up used for $250!!!
Just became a member of this forum and read this tutorial. What are the torque settings for the new 17mm bolts and for the OEM bolts with springs?
Thanks!
