    engine light, no cat converter

I have a 04 wrx, the engine light came on, I have no cat converter and a 3" exhaust, a Mac code reader indicated P0420, " cat efficiency below threshold, bank 1" I reset it and of course it keeps coming on, is there a "blocker?" or something that can take the place of the sensor and allow my wrx to perform like it should. Help Joe

What tuning does your car have to support the exhaust mod?

ive done this on many many cars including my buddies 98 Legacy L STi 2.5 turbo swap and my 02 WRX all you need to do is take your o2 sensor off and take it to the auto parts store and find a spark plug non-fouler that it will fit in and put it between the sensor and the bung(where the sensor goes in) sometimes it needs 2 but not always just try 1 at first

    good luck,
    mike

Well, aside from the thread being a year old, that isn't the answer. The fact that he's catless means he has a turboback, and on an '04 WRX without engine management, that's a no-no.

Then the people taking their cars to your dad's shop are potentially damaging their cars.

You HAVE to get tuned if you have a +04 WRX or STI and a turboback exhaust. It's not an option, it's required due to a OL/CL fuel delay. When you're getting tuned, you can turn the CEL off as part of that process.

    hey guys

im new to this forum and im a new subaru owner. I've had a vw vr6 for a while and finally got my hands on a 2002 wrx.

    Anyways,

the car has HKS Full Exhaust 4 inch downpipe with 3 inch high flow mufflers.

So because of this the car obviously has no cat. Thus i have a CEl that is thrown. P0420.

I do know mechanics that can do an inspection for me and as long as i can get the CEL off they dont really have a problem passing me.

Anyways, i've read a few different things, some fixes being mechanical, some fowlers, and also read about the perrin simulator.

Which is the best way to go so that i can get the light off and make it easier to pass inspection??

Oh and for EM it was supposedly tuned with Cobb Access Port 2.0.

But i figured i would buy the cobb unit myself and retune it. Sorry that this is so newb, completely different car than my VR6 haha

You "know" mechanics/inspectors that will inspect it for you as long as the CEL is off.... ???? Well ****, they will all do that.... get the AP..... Did the car not come w/it ? Probably isn't on the correct map if you don't have it.....

Best "fast fix" ? Pull the lightbulb..... Others may chime in.
