I have a 03 yellow wrx and I have an intermittent problem that the dealership has told me that it's a wrx problem and I should get used to it. Sometimes, especially after I have driven it for a while, distance or in traffic, it stalls and jumps when I push it at all. Not flooring it, even a gentle push. It feels like it's not getting gas or air and it drops in power when I accelerate, like a push...stop...push...stop, almost like your running out of gas. I just had it tuned (plugs n all), I have a blow off valve, cat back, and a short ram.

so a leak in pressure could cause this problem? Is that the most common reason or are there others. How often does the BOV leak, do you use one (advantages vs disadvantages), and is this what happens when it malfunctions? This problem happened before I added the short ram, but now it's just become more frequent. Is this lag in performance damaging my wrx? thanks for your help...

Its not an issue of a pressure leak. You need to put the stock bypass valve back on the car. Your car is running rich from the BOV and thus it is idling poorly. Check out the New Member FAQ.

The BOV is not malfunctioning, it is by definition an intake leak and is likely causing the car to stumble as a result. See The Big BOV Thread.
