I finally took some pictures of the 2.2K Ohm Resistor mod that can be used with the JDM Uppipe. The reason why I didn't connect it to the JDM Uppipe thread is that it would be easier for members to find this picture and information by giving it its own thread.
When using a bungless uppipe, like the JDM STI uppipe, a CEL will appear if the resistor mod isn't performed. The EGT probe that sits inside the stock uppipe is taken out and there is a connector that this probe connects to. If you look near the brake booster underneath the removable black plastic cover that has two screw pins, you will be able to find this connector. Unplug the probe side of the connector and store for later use or discard. Place the 2.2K Ohm resistor into the remaining side of the connector like the picture shown. Then cover it somehow with insulation of some sort and or tape it closed, to not allow the ELEMENTS from outside to get inside and cause corrostion. And then hide this underneath the other connectors. Then place the cover back on with the screw pins. Your all done. FYI.
I will chime in with my testimony. I also did this mod about a week and a half ago because my EGT sensor had been damaged from repeatedly backing out of the Godspeed Uppipe Bung.
Worked Perfect. Although I want to add that I had to RESET THE ECU after installing the resistor because the CEL did not go off immediatlely after doing the mod. Perhaps the CEL would have cleared itself after 3 good trips, but it doesn't fix the CEL immediately.
Well, after running the resistor mod for almost 2 weeks now, My CEL came back on. WTF??!! So I pulled the resistor and checked it with a multi-meter. The resistor went bad. The one I used is only 1/4 Watt and I believe that was my problem. I am going to get a 1/2Watt and retry...will let everyone know.
so if i am planning to buy the STI Uppipe i will have to buy this resistor??
I am planning do make this mod,,and to add a turbo back system.
Wich one works well with the STI uppipe????
Have you noticed any difference in performance ,when you changed your uppipe???
Do you think its better to buy one with the BUNG so i dont need the resistor???
which brands have bell mouth???
isnt bell mouth the best??
so Scooby sports is a good turbo back??
does it have a quieter muffler as an option???,,because its too loud
Thanks
Tuca
many of these questions you are asking have been discussed at length, please give the search page a try.
the resistor isn't a big thing, i believe your local hardware shop will have something that works fine. 1/2 watt, 2.2 ohm is all you need to know.
the uppipe WILL increase performance. lower spool up by about 500-1000 rpms, about 10 hp to the wheels, and lower exhaust temps by about 150 degrees.
the only pipe with a bell mouth that i can think of is the scooby sport & stealth back. MRT's should yield the same results though oh and vishnu has the duel pipe. it's just a different way to peel the pear.
the sttealth back does not come with a muffler. that's why it's stealth. it looks stock b/c the muffler is stock (or whatever one you chose)
TXS Stage 2 + TXS uppie = CEL, after a month. Will clear if I reset ecu, but comes back after a while. Gunna try this mod, thanks guys, for posting this info. Can I get one of these at Radio shack?

SpeedWagon, are you sure you're not just getting the cat inefficiency code? This is the CEL I kept getting with your exact setup. I didn't get the CEL until I added the catless up-pipe. I bought the $20 ponyexpress MIL eliminator and I have yet to see any CELs!
You guys are talking about two CELs here with two resolutions...
The first is the EGT CEL. I have gotten this a few times due to failed OEM EGT probes. I am also unsure of what is causing the probes to die. The first time I replaced the probe and it obviously fixed the problem. However 3 months later it died again and this time I just snipped the plug off the end of the probe and permanently fixed the resistor to it - until I can replace the probe again. The 2.2 seems to fix the EGTs to the computer at ~1250F. This is ok, but I'd rather have correct EGT measure going to the ECU.
The second CEL is the low cat cel. You will most likely get this with TurboXS stage 2 and up. I run equivalent to a 4. Even if you do have the hi-flow cat (and even if you don't). The pony express MIL Eliminator didn't work for me ... at least in stock form. Replacing the resistor in it with a 1k (if I recall) fixed the low cat cel for me.
When you put the 2.2 k ohm resistor into the opening left after unplugging the connection going to the uppipe, do you just put one end of it in one side of the opening and the other end in the other side. ( bend and cut the resistor wire on each end because its to long).
The picture shows the resistor connected to the opening but you can't see exactly where the ends are going.
Thanks, I just want to make 100% sure I did the mod correctly.
You can also use the uppipe side of the connector. Pry the two wires out of it carefully. Seal up the two holes where they used to be with Permatex, and it will be completely sealed when you put the uppipe side of the connector on.
And if you are planning on using the uppipe connector later, just pull off the Permatex and put the wires back in. That's it.
sorry to beat this topic up, but when i unplug the plug, do i wanna put the resistor into the part that i unplugged? or the part that it's unplugged from? only asking because i looked at the piece with the wires that go the the pipe, and it has a blue plastic piece (kinda like the harness for the prongs). do i have to pull it out, then put the resistor in? or just put the resistor into the piece that's gonna remain in the car? sorry this is stupidly worded, but i think i made my point...
