    uppipe gone bad

so i figured i'd try to swap out my uppipe today and i went at it. a lot of the bolts are hard to get at...

anyway, since its dark now, i gave up for the night. ok so my problem.

i can't get 2 bolts out of my uppipe. the ones from the turbo to the uppipe are out, but i can't for the life of me get the other 2 bolts out. they're the ones that are attached to brackets.

i swear i was yanking for about 2 straight hours trying to get these two friggin bolts out and i just haven't been able to. yeah, i know, use more lube- i sprayed WD40 about 2 million times and the bolts are dripping. really, i don't think i can spray anymore without flooding the friggin engine.

so what to do? i was tempted to take my dremel to those friggin brackets but i thought i'd regret this. i need help!!! those bolts!!!

please help me before i attack my wrx with a dremel!!

Go to your local hardware store and get a small propane torch and heat those bolts up. Try that a couple of times and a bet they will come loose

what size ratchet are you using? You might not have enough torque to break it loose. Put a pipe on the end or the ratchet and try.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest you run the car for a bit to warm it up, but it sounds like its already torn apart. If you do use a torch make sure you don't set the WD40 on fire and burn your entire engine bay....... I've also heard liquid wrench works better for loosening bolts than WD 40.
    Good luck.

During my install I was having trouble with a few uppipe bolts so I added a 3 foot pipe to the end of my rachet. Damn, I barly had to push hard and that nut came loose. Torque is an awsopme thing!

PB blaster is the shiznit. You might want to try some Tabasco sauce too. Be forwarned though, it will stink when you start the car up again.

is there even enough room to get a bar into that area? IIRC, that's a tight spot , i had to use a box end wrench.

i got the bolts off. i used liquid wrench and a torque wrench that has about a 2.5 foot long handle. that made it easy. then i got everything back together until... i can't find 3 downpipe bolts!!!!

so i gave up again for the night. its below freezing and after wrestling with that downpipe trying to get it to fit the bolts, i'm frozen, tired and bloody. i wish i had someone to help me, but alas, no one. and no lights either. well, if you count the little flashlight i use that takes 2 AAA batteries...

ok, so off to the hardware store to get a few downpipe bolts and my car should be in one piece again. lets hope i remember where all the bolts go...

yah there are 2 bolts that are stuck in the turbo and then 3 bolts that come out. i screwed the nuts onto the 2 turbo bolts and i have an extra nut. so i'm missing 3 bolts and 2 nuts... i wonder where they are. i'll probably just run to the hardward shop for em. 14mm.

any idea how long the bolts are? can't wait to put my car together!! i haven't driven in 2 days!

for anyone that does this in the future...

since i kept all the bolts and brackets and everything separate, i didn't remember that the turbo heatshield bracket was attached to the downpipe also. so my missing bolts and nuts were in there. the other missing bolt was on the bottom of the turbo, laughing at me
