my front mount radiator pictures for air / water intercooler

these are some pictures of the slow progress i am making on my project. basically i cut a radiator in half and welded the tanks closed. i called a radiator shop and found out that i could run the inlet and outlet towards the bottom if i had to. i dont know if i should paint everything black, but i will just leave it be now. as soon as the water pump comes i will install it. tomorrow i will be starting on my air/water intercooler. i have the core now but it will be alot of work trying to fit it, since its huge. its 8 inches deep and will be very close to the top of the hood scoop. hopefully the car will be done by next weekend.

You've got a lot of innovative idea's going into this car. You get my props more and more.

I hope you've got a name for this monster...maybe something like...t-rex "the pointy-toothed monster"

One question, if thats a radiator, isn't that designed to flow water and not air?? I guess Im wondering how you're going to setup the airflow.

are you planning on running the STI scoop and splitter? are you going to change the design of how much air flow comes through the scoop to the IC, and the turbo? with that big blower , i would imagine you might want more shielding or diverted scoop air.

that looks great, you look pretty talented with the torch. nice job.

its an air/water intercooler. no air from the outside will ever touch it. the intercooler is a completely enclosed unit. instead of air passing through it water does. here is an example of what an air to water intercool is going to do on my car. this is not my intercooler but something along the lines of this.

water cooled air, wow thats a first. Haven't seen anyone try this on a wrx yet. Do you know how much more water cooling is effective in this case over air, or is this a little experiment of yours?

air / water intercoolers have been used for years. they partically use them in more than half the drag cars that are turbo. the supercharged ford lightening uses an air to water intercooler from the factory. easy street wrx now uses and air to water intercooler for their car. water is said to pull 14 times the energy from an object faster and more efficiently than air. if everything is done right i should be able to get ambient air temperatures under full throttle on the street and 40 degree charge temperatures on the track.
