WTF is that stuff?! - ClubWRX Forum - Subaru Impreza WRX and STi Community and Forums

I bought an '07 wrx wagon a few weeks ago, and have done the following mods:

silencer delete; Invidia V4 dp; Invidia G200 cb; AP stage 2; and a few 'cosmetic' items.

I did the TBE and map last saturday, and this afternoon I installed an SPT short shifter. When installing the shifter, I noticed a greenish looking coating all over my transmission, laced with minute road debris. I ran my hand down the midpipe, and didnt find any more grease/oil/whatever this stuff is, so that would tell me that it was there to begin with.

So what is this stuff? Is my transmission leaking? Is it some kind of factory coating to protect it during shipping? I have about 3500 miles on my car now, I would think that stuff would burn off by now. Also, after running the car pretty hard, I am smelling some kind of burnng. Im not sure what to do about it, or if its even a problem. Would be nice to find out, though.

its a coating for during shipping. . . 24K on my wrx when I sold it and it was still there.
