Aftermarket BOVs can and do require some light end user maintenance to keep them performing perfectly. For aftermarket hybrid BOVs that have end user defined settings, there will be an initial period of adjustment to obtain the desired recirculation/atmospheric ratio. As well, most aftermarket BOVs will require "tuning" (usually via supplied washers, a screw, or other mechanism on the BOV itself) to allow them to idle correctly and blow off at the right time.

Are there any negative effects with aftermarket BOVs? Yes. The downside of releasing the air to atmosphere is that it has already been metered by the mass air sensor, and when it blows off, the ECU will be injecting the wrong amount of fuel into the cylinders. The engine temporarily runs extremely rich, meaning too much fuel is injected into the cylinders.

This temporary rich condition isn’t usually that harmful, but it can cause bucking or hesitation on lift-throttle. If the condition is really bad, it can eventually foul spark plugs and even clog the catalytic converter as unburned fuel on the catalytic converter burns very hot, and too much of it can melt the cat.

Can my tuner or engine management tune out this rich period? No.
I guess it was too much to ask for you to click the link in my post.

Or would that be talking 'asterisks'...

if i do recall, the greddy intake causes too much turbulence and may also force your car into running lean.

the two intakes i know will not mess up the sensitive maf sensor are:

    the SPT intake

    and the Cobb Tuning Intake

and dont mine the j hes just mad i didnt sex him up tonite.

Perhaps I jumped the gun though. Upon further reflection, I'm sure the OP did in fact search like he said, had already found the stickied thread I link to in my original post, saw that it answered his question... but then choose to post a new thread about it anyway.

The APS RFL is the only BOV I would own. You do have to get your open loop maps tuned for it though. It's designed to vent under high pressure, and recirc under low pressure. I have a technical explanation on it somewhere on this damn forum.

It's a pretty safe bet that if it has the words "Blow off valve", "Noise maker", "thing that goes Pshhhh" (or any variant), "aftermarket BPV" or the letters "BOV" that it's getting merged into this almost 600 pages of goodness.
