i know how to mount a bov on a top mount intercooler, but if i were to switch to a front mount will i be able to still use the same bov that i had or would i have buy a different one cause it looks like it may mount differently. any help on this would be awesome

Alright first off BOV on wrx/sti isn't what you want to do. You either have to use a BPV or at least 50% recirculation setup otherwise your car won't run properly since it uses a MAF sensor which measures air in the intake and then applies the proper fuel and the BPV is meant to recirculate the air back into the intake pipe after the MAF sensor so that no air is lost and your fuel mixture isn't altered.

And second to answer your question it all just depends on the BOV, if you switch to a front mount you have to have a flange welded onto the charge pipe and your BOV needs to be able to mount onto it. It all comes down to how the BOV mounts.

Cliffs notes - nothing short of recirculating 100% of the air to the intake tract is going to result in a safe condition when are car is tuned for and controlled via MAF.

If you want to run a BOV, convert to MAP. Yes, you can put it on the car, plenty of people do it - but you are creating an intensely rich condition every time it VTA's.

(I did a little more research)

From GoFastBit's BOV FAQ page :

In a car with a MAF sensor, when a BOV vents, air is escaping from a closed system. This air has already passed through the MAF sensor and has been measured, and the computer doesn't know that this air never made it to the engine. This will cause a brief rich mixture as the computer will still deliver the correct amount fuel dosage based on the amount of vented air.
