I believe your BOV spring is too strong. I've had an adjustable Greedy BOV before. If it's set too tight, it stutters. I think it's like this:
1. The pressure in the intake tract builds up as the throttle body closes.
2. The BOV opens.
3. The pressure is only partially relieved before the overstrong spring shuts the BOV again.
4. Pressure begins to build higher again.
5. Cycle starts over.
It's kinda harmonic.

Does anyone who has a 100% atmoshperic BOV have problems with idling or with driving?
Excel to Live, Live to Excel
Why would we? No, not at all. I've been running mine almost an entire year. Zero problems. In fact I haven't heard of anyone at all having problems with 100% atmospheric BOV.
mine was really dirty after months of use with no problem so i took it off to clean it i used WD-40 to clean the shaft that actually moves up to release the pressure (i have the turbo xs one btw)
anyway i put it back on and poof it did not open any more i took it off the shaft was moving but on the car it self it would not open
any ideas?

Did you take it apart? If so maybe you put it back together incorrectly? Also if you did try taking it apart again to make sure nothing was put back in wrong afterwards?
i did not take it apart i just took it off the car cleaned it and then put it back and poof didnt work.

If your BOV didn't open you would have some serious boost spike issues or backspin when you let off the throttle. If you somehow got one end of the vac line to it or other not connected, however, it may be hanging open most of the time and you wouldn't hear it make the initial vent sound.

I don't know about what it does to an 02 WRX, but venting instead of recirculating will cause idle issues on an Eclipse. It will also have a hard time catching the "falling revs" when you clutch-in at high rpms before it dies.

I actually had a problem with one throwing CEL's. The code was P0172....right bank rich. I have since sold it and went back to the stock BOV. The driveability was greatly improved and no more CEL.

I've installed many BOV's and have sold many more. Not one person has ever had any problems at all. Possibly there was an installation error Dale?
Dan,
The one I had was the TurboXS Type-H. There was no errors in installation. I tried the BOV with no washers, 1, 2, 3 and so on. Each ended up with the P0172 CEL. I also had to run the car a little harder than what I wanted to. If I wasn't giving it enough throttle, the turbo would back-spin. Even if I had no washers in, it would still do it. I push my car to the limits quite often, but I do like to treat it nice in normal everyday driving. Like I said, when I put the stock BOV back on, the CEL never came back and the car was much smoother to drive.
I'm not saying I won't ever run one again, but I will try a different one and will only run it when it is necessary.

Dale
Getting my 02 WRX soon, and i'm just wondering what the loudest BOV is..and if it makes your car any different by having it go into the atomosphere. let me know please..any sound cliips would be helpful too! thanks
