if it isnt the engine, what makes porsche go so fast?
Decals on that Porsche = massive vomiting

To be fair, that was a 700hp Porsche, so the STi was obviously extremely fast, too.

Porsches go fast because they make a lot of power, have great aerodynamics, are relatively light, and that rear weight bias can be nice for a quick start.

Talking about the engine, not the car

porsche 911 turbo uses a 6-cyl 3.6l to make 480hp
subaru WRX Type RA-R uses a 4-cyl 2.0l to make 320hp

Subaru = 160hp per liter
Porsche = 133hp per liter

Ferrari's run beautifully around tracks, and from dealership to dealership for service. If you can afford the car, it's not your only vehicle.

+1

Modern Ferrari's are fairly reliable for an exotic if the service regimen is followed. It's expensive but no one ever says they were cheap.

Of course after a few belt changes you'll have spent enough money to buy the mechanicn a stock WRX.

I beg to differ sir. I own both a porsche 911 carrera and STi and I can say the STi is a bit quicker off the line and 1/4 mile but if I were to chose between the two, Porsche would easily be my choice

Its not coincidence that they both use a "boxer" motor.Porsche/VW taught the Subie guys how to built motors(for airplanes) right before WWII.Though they are very different motors now the roots and design are very much the same.
