Question a NOOB needs major help.

okay so i just bought an 06 wrx and i'm looking to mod my car.

i've heard from a lot of forums, people, etc. that i should go with the AP stage 2. but like i looked at cobbtuning.com and freaking it costs like 1825.00 with cat.
it comes with the cobb tbe system.

    so my questions are:
    1. what's the difference between ap stage 1 and 2?
    2. what is needed to install the accessPORT? (like is it just like plug and play?)
    3. should i get the stage 1 or stage 2?
    4. what does "flashing the stage 2 map" mean?
    5. where can i NOT have to pay almost 2k for stage 2?
    6. what's my next mod? (i heard DP should be my next mod, which DP should i get)

honestly, i'm a freaking noob and yeah i won't mind if you people laugh at me

but seriously i'd appreciate it if you pros helped me out here.

You don't need to buy Cobb's exhaust to go stage 2. But the difference between stage 1 & 2 is WORTH IT. I was stage 1 for awhile, and it was good ... but stage 2 is over stock.

You can get a used AccessPort for $400-500 and an new ERZ catless downpipe of EBay for around $150 and you can go stage 2. If you want a catted downpipe, it will cost you more. As far as the catback exhaust goes ... you don't need it, but it will help performance a little bit. You can get a new catback as cheap as $250 on Ebay. If you want a quiet one, you will likely have to spend a more on a Cobb, Borla Hush, etc. People sell exhausts and downpipes all the times in the for sale forums. IMO, stage 2 is definitely worth the $650 I spent on it.

Spend time searching and you will find out everything you need to know. Every technical/performance question I have ever had has been asked and answered on here many times before I even thought of it, and its will likely be the same for you.

    Good Luck, welcome, and congrats

well since you have an 06 wrx, you dont want to do your dp until you have engine management because of boost creep. the stock td04 waste gate sux and will need the help of e/m to adjust the wastegate duty cycle. the only reason people get the stage one access port is to set them up to goto stage 2. if money is the issue, as it is with all im sure, you can go with open ecu. its a free way to have e/m, except for the cable ($90). but you will need someone that knows what they are doing.

1.) Cobb stage 1= their Engine Management system.( AP) Stage 2 = EM+ a downpipe.
    2.) Plug and play.
3.) Stage 2. More power, better spool up, etc. If you have the cash.
4.) To change from stock to their maps.
5.) "Stage 2 for $90" the title of this thread.

I have yet to do it so I can't tell you from first hand how it is and works.
EDIT: This was in the 2.0L WRX forum. You have the 2.5L, look for 2006 maps as they are different from pre 2006.
6.) Hard to say, they make a lot of them. Spend a couple days searching on the one that's right for you.

    We all started somewhere.

+1 on openecu ... free engine management . I didn't go this route, but would have if I had known about it before buying the Accessport. I wouldn't want to do any tuning myself ... but then I saw that I could have bought an XPT map for $25 from http://www.plasmatize.com/xptstore/ thats arguably better than Cobb's OTS map. ( what was I thinking ... I don't even use economy, anti theft, or valet modes)

lol first off tahnks for your help..

    okay so, some follow ups:

so if i were to buy this http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=2304 then all i have to do is get a dp and i'd have a stage2 wrx?

i thought like stage 2 was another map that wasn't included in this http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=2304..??

    would this dp http://store.mauromotorsports.com/inv2dowr.html
    fit in a 2006 wrx?

    thanks for the help.

The stage 2 map is included with that as well as a few other maps like valet, economy, anti-theft.

To save some major $ you can install pretty much any TBE you want and use the Cobb AP stage 2 maps. Search and learn.

    Moving thread to Engine Performance.

First question yes. But you would have to switch from the stage 1 map to the stage 2 map. Both are on the AP.

    Second question:
    See momo02WRX's post.
