    Hawkeye wrx with forged internals

Hi guys. I know there are numerous threads on 2.5 engine reliability but i cant find where my question is answered. Im looking to buy 07 wrx soon and wonder whether to go for an unmodifed one or to get one that has had the engine forged as i understand the weakness in the headgasget, pistons and the standard ecu map. What should i look for when buying?
I know everyone loves the sti's on here but i only want 300bhp so the alot cheaper wrx will do me.

Try to find a car as close to stock as possible that was driven by a little old lady that used it to get to and from bingo and church.
If you get a modified car be prepared to hunt down any little glitches and quirts that were from the previous owner

You only want stock hp levels? Don't buy a modded car.

I want more than stock power. Surely an engine with forged pistons is better than one with out no?

If you are looking for 300bhp no need they are costly and from what I read don't help with longevity of the engine.

300 awhp, still I'd probably not go there for the same reasons. If I was going bigger power or only using my car as a toy sure maybe as I wouldn't need it to be super reliable. 300 awhp isn't that hard to achieve. Good turbo back exhaust, intake, top mount and a pro tune should get you there and with reasonable safety.

No. An engine with proven, reliable parts is better than an engine with expensive parts.

Mainly blown out of proportion. It's there but forged internals are going to give you other issues to contend with.

Cheers for your help. I was looking at one which has just had a rebuild with forged internals running 370bhp, i know the gearbox is going to be on life support with that power but i thought the engine would be sound. Perhaps ill look for something else or maybe a blob eye sti.

There is zero indication that any engine that has been modified is going to be sound. No matter who modifies the engine, they lack experience because they are not Subaru. The best people in the world at building Subaru engines are Subaru. They're also most likely to use authentic Subaru parts, whereas people with less experience will more likely use imitation parts...

Modified engines and reliability are not always compatible terms.
