Are Perrin Intakes illegal in Florida?

So I noticed that my intake is extremely dirty and there is a huge hole in it. I currently have a Perrin Intake on my 06 WRX TR, mind you the car already had it installed prior to me buying it. I went online to buy a new one and I'm reading that these are legal in California for off-road use only. If anyone has more info on this I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to get all the facts straightened out before making the wrong purchase.

There's the link if anyone needs it. Thanks in advance for the help.

if you live in a state that piggy-backs California requirements and it doesn't have a CARB exempt # then yeah, technically it isn't legal.

I would certainly do something. Dirt is not good for engines at all. I suspect your existing filter isn't actually filtering effectively. What you do is up to you, but if it were my car I'd fix the issue, and change the oil filter also (probably the oil as well).

I had the oil filter and the oil itself changed about a week ago. I checked the oil level 3 days ago and it was good. But I will definitely buy a new Perrin Intake filter tomorrow morning

OK. The reason I mentioned the oil and oil filter is that a poorly functioning or malfunctioning air filter will let particulates into the intake, meaning into the motor itself. Eventually this will show up as wear metals in the oil; insolubles such as Si are a good indicator, for example. In fact one can often figure out if their air filter is working by simply looking at the level of Si in a used oil analysis -- the data will almost invariably show elevated Si and/or % insolubles. I get nervous about all that, because I keep my cars a long time and dirt is the enemy.

i've had an aftermarket exhaust, intake, and 10% window tint for 9 years. i've never been bothered. like someone previously mentioned, we don't have emissions testing or anything.

    you'll be fine.

Interestingly, this conforms to Lawrence Kohlberg's stages of moral development, particularly the preconventional stage:

So, if you believe this, you have the mentality of a typical 9 year old.

Wow! That 'Postconventional' is me to a T. I never heard of Kohlberg though. Very interesting. I'll have to look him up.

Replace the filter. In the short run your engine will thank you, and in the long run so will your wallet

I find his work depressing. He probably agreed with me; he is thought to have drowned himself in the Atlantic.

You're right. Well I have the intake filter ready to order just waiting for more feedback from everyone on this thread. And I'll check/change my oil as soon as I install the new filter.
