Just picked up my 13' wrx hatch. Cobb Downpipe, and TP stage 2 map installed. Car also has Sf air box, and turbosmart kompact bpv.
First Impression: WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Car gets out of the hole much faster. Feels like the same difference as when i drive down to Denver and the engine is at 5000 ft instead of 8000. All around better throttle feel. Car seems to have an extra 10% of grunt over the stage one, and it comes much, much earlier. Sound is just a little bit meaner. I am on stock CBE.
Overall the car is 100% more fun to drive. On my two favorite roads the turns come much faster, and i am using much heavier braking. Can't wait to see what Eric's first revisions do, as when he revised my stage 1 OTS map, it was night and day.
Awesome man congrats. Almost an off topic question, but did you notice any difference in sound between stock and stage one? My AP will be here tomorrow but the downpipe is a couple paychecks away, and I've always wondered this. (Perrin catback by the way)
Yeah you will definitely here more turbo noise. The torqued performance base map increased turbo noise a bit, and then the revisions Eric did increased it even more. I did this before I installed the intake so Id say it's likely you would hear more noise as well. On the base map the squeels between 4k and 5k were louder. After Eric did the revisions I also started getting flutter from the Bpv while it regulated boost. Go for it man!!!
honestly, one of the best things about the tunes are that the car becomes much more drivable. A lot less lurching at parking lot speeds, and no more holes in the torque curve where you feel like the car stops pulling. I would say the must have mods are TP Stage 1 tune (accessport or tactrix open source), short shift and bushings, Group-N transmission mount (I LOVE this mod), differential bushing inserts, Whiteline steering rack bushings, and race comp sway bars. Those mods alone have turned this car into what it should have been from the factory.
Those are just about exactly my plans after I hit stage 2, I'm really looking forward to it though. Great to hear about the driveability, stuttering along at low rpms gets old after a while lol. I'll actually be up at steamboat for work today, and ill be living in Rifle for a couple months starting in June. Some friends and I are planning on trying to climb the Maroon Bells so we might just have to trade cars for a day haha
+1 agree. Eric is stand up guy. i would assume you should send him a log now. I usually have him revise my tunes 2-3times a year when season change. I would bet he will make your stage 2 a bit better if you send him a log. always seems the throttle response on the base map needs tweaked and you feel it even more. I am on his Stage 3 now and we have revised it 5 times in last year and i think we finally have it perfect for summer setup. Good luck and enjoy the fun!
Hapa, stage 2 huge difference, stage 1 is fine tuning the crap OEM flash. Stage 2 with adding a DP, the SF wont make a noticable difference yet. your looking a solid 40hp over stock with 93 oct. stage 1 maybe 20. then 1 month later you get bored and drop $1000+ and go stage 3 then start saving for more since that is not enough lol
