So I just got my accessport finaly on my car with 111k and after almost 3 years of ownership so I decided to do my own personal review of it.
mind you my car needs an air fuel ratio sensor so my data logs looked like absolute crap, but come on...who cant help but play with it once you get it?
I don't think its helping my fuel trimming (thankfully my exhaust does smell like sweet fuel)
first time out, overboosting on stage 1 ACN91 by about 2.4...tried LWG and got within boost target range so then I decided to log and get a better overall feel for this thing...boosted to 18.4 again but noticed my clutch slips and the data logs show peak boost in conjunction with the slippage so im hoping its just clutch issue. I did burn it quite a bit today trying to rush through traffic after doing a lunch run for work and didn't realize I did until after getting out of the car
so im giving it a few weeks before 3rd gear WOT again to see if any glaze works itself off and all is well
so I have to say im absolutely amaze with how smooth boost feels now but I am disappointed abviously due to the slippage
Most hardware stores carry these bolt extractors. Irwin and Craftsman both make them.
Also FYI- The vacuum line in the BPV is what helps hold it shut. It equalizes the pressure on both sides of the diaphram until you let of the throttle. So theoretically it will now open under boost once the spring pressure is overcome.
The first pic had a ruler for comparison. Take a look again and tell me they are for screws. Not to mention they grab from the outside and are called "bolt extractors". The set I have will do 8mm-19mm bolts
These are exactly the reason that wheel locks are useless...it would take me an additional 5 min total (max) to steal your wheels with an extractor set.
Also thinking of selling my car.
Wanting to upgrade to a newer 13 or 14...with leather, heated seats, fogs and moonroof. Just getting the itch for a more aggressive style
Also, my car has its new fender on. Talked to the body shop yesterday, he mentioned a few other things like how part of my passenger wheel well was torn off. I had to rip it off, rather part of it actually because I was randomly dragging it.
The passenger side of the bumper has to be screwed on to what's left of the wheel well liner either due to broken plastic mount or lost tension in the clips, both things I'm not worried about at the moment and do not pertain to my accident.
He also said the difference of what it would cost to have that one wheel repaired that got scuffed would go back to me since I opted out of wanting it fixed. My reasoning was because brake dust is infused under the clear on every wheel, so there's no point in fixing one and the rest still looking like crap. Yes they're plastidipped. And I need to redo them anyway.
However it sounds like the front left wheel bearing is shot, same wheel that got backed into. At speeds of 40-43, and again at 60-65 there's a pulsating vibrational noise, that you can also feel in the kick panel. What sucks is that when I made the claim there wasn't any noise prior (besides a minor whining noise that was impossible to pinpoint and was waiting to see if it got any worse), so I didn't mention it to the insurance company. However a day or two later we got some hefty rain. Wouldn't you know, THEN the noise acts up.
So I'm now waiting on the alignment to be checked, and to have the noise checked out and see if the insurance will fix it if it's the bearing
I have a new model sentra as a rental (I like it actually, and I'm a fan of nissan, plus better then my last two rentals)
But dam I want my car back. Especially so I can get my clutch installed
I wish I could get my car running right to enjoy it.
I'm just gonna swap this into a "build" thread. ..but mostly repair thread haha
Got a few parts in today. Front and rear kartboy endlinks, have my spark plugs and new to me oem valve since mines broken and picking up an intercooler soon as well
Quick tip for anyone looking to order the exedy stage 1 clutch kit, I ordered mine from oakos and received a call earlier saying they're in back order and at this time do not know when they'll be coming in. I'm waiting for an update tomorrow to see if there's an eta. I won't be cancelling my order, it's already there and processed and would just be a waste of time for me... plus I don't have my car yet anyway. So just a heads up if anyone got their taxes back and was looking for that same kit, might want to try another vendor but I'll update once I find out more
I also have a bit of vinyl wrap coming in for some personalization
Question though, has anyone ordered rear endlinks for a 3rd Gen wrx yet, I have 4 bolts and 8 washers for the front, but I only have two bolts for the rear and I'm wondering if I'm missing two?
Got a call earlier today from the body shop. State farm approved replacing the left front hub and parts will be there today. And either late tonight or first thing tomorrow my alignment is getting done and the car should be ready tomorrow
Gonna post phone the endlinks for now. Was hoping I can just crawl under the car since I don't have ramps but even someone as small as me is going to have a hard time.
Got my car back though....forgot to tell the shop the clutch is almost gone so they slipped the hell out of it when test driving it.
Made for a very very interesting ride home, didn't think I would make it. We'll see in a few hours after the clutch has time to cool down to see if it's still driveable...hopefully I get another few days out of it
Ordered some avery vinyl that delivered today...still thinking of the placement, probably hood scoop. It's black metallic gloss
Also exedy stage 1 clutch kits will not be available for 1-2 months so I opted out and went with the oem replacement instead. The difference in price is being refunded. The guys at oakos are great people
Nice!
I'm sure she's happy to be home.
That's good the Oakos gave you the option to change your order.
It's gotta be a pain with the clutch slipping. On the positive note Youll have it fixed soon.
It seems you are at the crossroads with that car.
You could fix it nice, and drive it for awhile.
Or trade it and start working on the next one.
Just something to consider at this point.
I would fix up the current WRX and drive it for awhile. Then I would be saving up for the STI that I rea wanted.
Just my opinion.
That's actually what I'm planning. Maybe not an sti, not too picky...but definitely a 14 hatch. And if the 4th gens get a hatch I'll be looking at those as well.
I'm going to get it fixed up, tune in the suspension and enjoy it for the time being.
Talking to ESTuned right now setting up a date. They're literally about 10 minutes away which is great
Also exedy stage 1 clutch kits will not be available for 1-2 months so I opted out and went with the oem replacement instead. The difference in price is being refunded. The guys at oakos are great people
No hopefully shouldn't. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to my car and not going past stage 2 bolt on with this car either, otherwise I might have go go with the comp stage 2 then for a bit more.
I also desperately need the clutch done asap. Tried letting it cool for a few hours and it's still slipping pretty dam bad. So I don't know what the hell happened at the body shop but I literally couldn't go over and bump...it just literally would not move forward...just revved. I was going to try adjusting the clutch out a bit hoping it'd grab lower but...doubt it
Alright so...again, got my car back. ..clutch is bad. Dropped the car off no issues with it other than it slips at high loads in 3rd gear at low rpm and the same for 4th and 5th. Get it back yesterday and...let's just say I can't drive if there's traffic in the road because I'll either get t-boned or rear ended. It slips in every gear at the slightest throttle input. I can literally drop the clutch and pump it in gear, put the he parking brake up and first grabs and there's no transmission shudder with any of that...it's that bad. Someone either at the body shop, or wherever they sent it out for the her an sissies he he alignment and wheel hub and bearing destroyed whatever the hell was left of the clutch.
And wouldn't you know it gave out a block from my house and I had to push it home
Someone is going to die
Moral of you story kids...if you have a way...put a valet map on the car if you're ever leaving it with someone. ..regardless of what's being done. People are ****bags
Was t the body shop....thankfully. it was the place they brought the car to for the alignment. Exactly what I thought...sent the manager a nasty email (not directed towards him personally) just reasoning why I'm upset...someone goes joy riding in your car and blows the clutch on your daily....come on. Waiting for a reply but I'm going to be getting them to pick up the bill for the install
My car got picked up by a tow truck today. On its way to ESTuned for the clutch replacement. First thing I'm doing is putting a valet map on the car so next time if I need to leave it with someone else it'll minimize how hard they can drive it
Getting a check for part of the cost. No one is owning up to it, both places are pointing fingers so the body shop owner said he'll cut me a check. All sorted out
It's a nightmare right now. It's in for the clutch right now and should have been done yesterday or thursday however every bolt is rusted and corroded and breaking. So far need to add both control arms into the bill
Nope
Borrowing holly's car for the time being when I can bit it's making things tricky as far as rides go. Sometimes our schedules don't work out enough to where I can use her car the day for work and then I get home before she leaves and can use her car for work
Like this morning we needed her mom to either drive holly to work this morning and I pick her up after, or holly drops me off and then I'm screwed for a ride home
I think next time I buy a new car, soon after I'm picking up a cheap beater. Something that isn't broke, doesn't need much other than oil changes to keep driving and keep the miles off my new car and then when something like this happens again I still have another car. Because we all know that there will be time (s) when our daily is down for a while
It's getting there. The only thing complicating it is the corrosion from winters in CT. The bushings on the control arms were toast and probably the sole reason for the front end clunking although top hats can be the issue as well....but the arms weren't top of my list until now. Oh well.
See I was thinking toyota. I've been a toyota technician so I know them pretty well and they're pretty dam reliable. Either a camry or corolla. Both very cheap and reliable cars
Oh go with the Camry, especially since you know how to work on them Toyota's haha.
Ours is a 2006 Camry sedan (sadly automatic) and it's been bulletproof, even with my little brother and little sister learning on it and what not...
Plus it's actually not that "slow" as I would expect, not quick or anything, but it can hit the speed limit without a problem unlike our VERY old volvo we had a while ago...
Good luck again with the rex getting fixed up though! Didn't know they corrode so easily with Winter weather...
Oh yes they do. Factor in the few that get heat treated multiple times a day by the engine and turbo as well. That's where issues always were. And while I owned the car the two winters in CT I have washed the underside down twice per winter. Seems like subies corrode a bit faster then the toyotas
I'm thinking 6 cylinder camry. Don't care on the year...just don't like the oil consumption of the 06 4 cylinder engines, don't wanna spend money on the water pump which is easy but the car isn't going to be a project car...both are very reliable but the 6 is a bit more I think
2100 bucks later, the car is home. 2 hubs and spindles, 2 lower control arms, few gaskets, 800 million bolts
All in all the parts that broke were going to screw me one day or another so I'm glad to get a lot of it out of the way.
I have the exedy oem replacement kit with oem flywheel. Takes a bit getting used to honestly, especially with an overheated pressure plate causing the pedal to be stiff, and the grab point is dam near the bottom but feels great. Can't wait to see how it is when it's broken in. Even the shifter feels great with the upgraded kartboy ss and bushings
So damage to your clutch was a result of irresponsible dudes at the shop, or irresponsible dudes at the shop in conjunction to the stage 1 power straining your clutch, or you and stage 1 power straining the clutch?
No, someone was obviously launching my car when it was at the body shop. That's the only thing that is going to wear the clutch out that fast. Because the stage one only made it slip under higher boost but the car was still easily driveable in normal driving conditions. Once I picked it up after the body shop had it, the clutch was demolished..mt here was no grab whatsoever. I put it in first gear with the parking brake up and it didn't even stutter let alone stall.
Should have taken pictures but the clutch disk burned through the rivets, the flywheel was grooved deep to the point that IF I was to cut it, it wouldn't have worked.
I wouldn't have minded if they owned up at front rather than be sneaky about it. That's the biggest issue...you screw up, own up to it. That's all
Agreed though. I hated those people and called them out all the time. Customers are trusting us to service their cars correctly. And these are the people that give bad rep to us and they are EVERYWHERE lol
