So I've heard the stock catted up pipe for my 04 wrx can possibly break down and ruin my Turbo. I was just wondering if getting an an aftermarket grimmspeed up pipe and losing the catt will cause me to fail smog. Considering I already have an invidia g200 cat back exhaust.(live in california)
It should cause you to fail smog, yes. It will do so if it causes a CEL, and/or it is detected during visual inspection. To prevent a CEL you can use a resistor fix. To prevent detection during visual inspection you must find a technician that honestly, earnestly does not know where to look or why.
People pass smog with a catless up pipe all the time, but to do so they have done those two things.
