    Question EWG Question, PLEAZE HALP!

    Hey all,

Finally got my Nameless Performance catted/divorced dp and CAI in! Installed the CAI myself, and have a date set to install the dp and do a protune at the same time. When I spoke with COBB, they were really worried about tuning my car with the intake because they were almost certain I'd have boost creep issues. They recommended going EWG. Here's the issue: I can't stand the sound of EWG on my daily

I was under the impression that by going a catted, divorced dp, I should be OK as far as boost creep goes. COBB stated my only options are to go EWG or ditch the intake. I like the intake; with a stage 1+ tune you could feel the difference in the lower end vs stock intake and stage 1 tune, and call me immature, but I like the sound it makes too. Are there any alternative ways to prevent boost creep other than EWG? Or am I stuck taking off my intake and selling it? All I have mod-wise now are Nameless Performance catback, and aforementioned Nameless catted dp and intake. Any help is appreciated; thanks!

My EWG would only open if I really got on it, it wasn't ever an issue with daily driving.. but if you don't want to hear it even when you floor the car, then you can always just plumb it back into the exhaust. Or you could port the IWG on your turbo.

I have heard of numerous people running the exact same set up you are planning (although I didn't catch the brand of the intake you have, but I am assuming AEM?). Since you have the parts, install them and then do data logging and see if you have boost creep. You can test using a COBB stage 2 tune (you can run a stage 2 tune with a catted nameless exhaust and CAI - AEM that is). If you will have boost creep then you will have it with the stage 2 COBB tune, or the pro-tune. A tuner can't tune out boost creep obv.

I have also seen people weld a separate, smaller muffler on the EWG.
Anyone put a silencer or small muffler on their EWG dump? - NASIOC

Alot of people seem to be happy with this Supertrapp muffler for around $65 on Summit Racing. Nice thing is it able to be clamped on and tuned.

im running catted with the Cobb SF intake and i only have boost creep issues when i go from high to low elevation for the first coupld keystrokes till it adjusts to the thicker air.... besides that i havent had a problem. if you do want to go EWG but dont want to hear the dump tube you can get a DP that will let you recirc from the EWG.....

    Here is one!

The CAI is also Nameless Performance; they just released it earlier this year. It's similar to the AEM unit, even uses the same COBB OTS map.

I hadn't heard of putting a silencer on the EWG, I'll definitely look into that. Maybe the EWG wouldn't be too bad if you only really hear it while under heavy load...wish I could hear an EWG Subie I person.

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like I have a few options to look into. Let me know if you think I may have another option! Maybe I'll get lucky and once the dp is on, I won't have any creep issues, even with the intake.

It only opens at a certain boost pressure. Below, it's as if it's not there. If you don't want it to open, you can easily achieve that with your right foot.

Brings to mind a certain German car company that used "external" wastegates on their CA-legal (therefore all-USA-legal) road cars, and got everything legal by plumbing in separate catalytic converters into the wastegates. I found that a thoughtful idea at the time.

Well, maybe I will just go with the EWG. If so, any reccomendations? I am totally new with these, and if I'm going to use one, I'd like to have it in time for my June 3rd tune.

Went ahead and got my protune at PIA in Tacoma, WA. Creep was not significant enough to be a concern, even with the CAI and turboback. No EWG needed! Problem solved. Was happy with the numbers, too. 305 whp/325 ft lbs at 18 psi. Feels like a totally different car.

    Grats on that!

I've got 11k miles on my '13 and have done zero mods. A buddy is getting a '15 soon (supposed to be here last week!) and I've been reading here a lot more lately and talking WRXs with him a lot. Been thinking again about getting an Accessport but it's just a lot of friggin money. And practical GF's attitude (which I agree with much of the time) is, "your car runs fine now and is great, why spend money on it?" Bah, rational thinking!

Grats again on the fresh tune!
