    downpipe install

Hey All, Can anyone tell me if it will be bad for my 02 WRX to install a downpipe before getting a stage 2 protune? Will be running it for a couple of weeks without the tune.

I'm no pro, but I wouldnt. the larger down pipe diameter is going to put more back pressure on your turbo. being a VGT turbo, you cant manually adjust it for the increase. IF you must....keep it from spooling as much as possible to reduce damage.

02-03 wrxs do not need a tune after installing a downpipe (it's recommended though so you get the most power out of it)

    You'll be fine

Larger Φ would decrease back pressure. The bugeye cars are more tolerant anyway. I'd not worry provided that's the only mod and the correct intake remains.

Thanks everyone! Next question, will it match up to my OEM mid/cat back without an adapter?

Oh, and will I see power gains without before the tune?

Depends on what the downpipe is.

    Not much without the tune.

As Spiros said it will decrease back pressure. And most downpipes either replace the existing covertors with 1 high flow or plain delete them.

being a VGT turbo, you cant manually adjust it for the increase.

It will be fine running it for a few weeks before your tune. Although, you will throw a cat efficiency CEL.

Which downpipe do you have? You'll likely need an adaptor.
