This is a discussion on To mod or not to mod? within the Engine Modifications forums, part of the Tech & Modifying & General Repairs category; I have a habit of modifying all my toys. I've never happy with anything in stock form....

    ...Yep
This is the first time, in a long time, that I only own one car.
Anything beyond basic bolt-ons usually causes more stress on your powertrain, which in turn reduces reliability. It's just too hard to be without a car when something fails.

Yeah.. it would probably take me a year and a half to revert my car back to stock.. and that's factoring in the donor car that I have.

My feeling is that the majority of members modified their cars whereas the majority of owners does not, so more cars in the wild are stock than not. Just IMO though.

^ That's my impression also. I think only a small percentage of owners make it here. And those that do are more inclined toward modding...
You can't have everything - where would you put it?

It is similar on other fora too, though I've found one exception: on the Honda forum to which I belong almost every car is entirely stock. Usually it's the opposite though yes.

You like how it looks stock? Or you just don't want to worry about reliability?

From my perspective exterior mods are too frequently kitsch, and mechanical mods are too frequently unreliable. I may be a minority of one though.
