How much to build an engine

So I got a friend that has a bare stock block that I can get for cheap. And it's not blown. How much would it cost to get it built to be able to withstand (reliably) 400whp? Oh and it's a 2.5

How cheap? I don't see much point in paying for a working block just to tear it apart. For reference, I just replaced my case halves for $250 after the $100 core exchange.

Anyways, you can buy a built shortblock made to handle 400whp from between $2900 and $3500 depending on what you want. Obviously you'll still need headstuds, gaskets, heads, etc.

No I mean bare. There's nothing in it except the block

I suppose a couple hundred dollars short of $2900, depending on who you have put it together.

Were you planning on putting it together yourself?
